At the one in my state (couldn't attend, just read about it a few minutes ago), it was more of a demonstration with people speaking out against what's happening at the federal and state levels. There were some chants, people telling their stories, airing their concerns, and lots of signs.
Our elections are FPTP and no amount of wishing it was otherwise was going to change that
Even if people thought Harris wouldn't have been great, it took zero additional brain cells to realize Trump would have beenwill be is infinitely worse.
Yes, I will "shove it down the leftists throats", as you say, since they were big cheerleaders against voting for the only candidate that stood a chance of defeating Trump. Sowing doubt/division when we should have been unified against that threat (wasn't that what you were originally chastising me for?)
The people failed, not the government. We had a free and fair election, saw what was at stake, and still people decided to sit it out or throw their vote away.
I haven't browsed your history, and at this point, I don't care to, but if that's the kind of messaging you were throwing out up to November, then YOU. ARE. AT. LEAST. PARTIALLY. RESPONSIBLE.
Edit: Also, I never once said "leftists" until I quoted you: You threw and jumped on that grenade all by yourself.
Then where were those people in November when it freaking mattered?
I'm absolutely entitled to hold a grudge against the single-issuers who helped get us here. Actions, or in this case, inactions have consequences, and I'm not going to coddle them when they come crawling back to reality after they were told over and over again what was at stake.
There is no information on sportbots about how many accounts they have listed, but I'm guess it's in the "high hundreds - low thousands" range.
That's way too many bots for people to block. Yes, I'm aware there's a setting to block all bots, but that's too all or nothing.
If you insist on going that route, maybe stand up a dedicated instance like one of the other repost instances (and only post to local communities there) so people can just block that instance.
If someone's posting things that are going to get me in legal hot water because they show up on my instance, they will be banned from my instance. As an example, I don't platform people who incite violence or are here for bloodlust (see all the Luigi-based bans I had to issue).
If someone is posting things that are against TOS of other Lemmy servers, they will likely be banned from those
If the behavior is persistent and problematic for enough instances, the instance will likely be defederated.
In all of those cases, you're still free to say whatever you want on your own instance, but that doesn't guarantee anyone else will want to platform it on theirs. Owning your own home doesn't mean you can just waltz into other peoples' and say whatever you want.
Edited to fix a typo and change the tone so it didn't sound accusational (which wasn't my intent).
Were people saying Biden was too old also sowing division or were they just criticising?
Yes and no. The people who did nothing but repeat and amplify that? Sowing division (see GiveSomeFucks, Return2Ozma, etc)
The people who made valid points but weren't beating that drum continuously? Legit criticism for the most part.
Either way, at the time, it was Biden or Trump, and the same two potential outcomes: Status quo (flawed but not fascism) or speedrun to fascism. There really shouldn't have been a dilemma.
It doesn’t matter. We’re in this shit now. And have to somehow act together to get out of it again.
Good luck to them then. I'll definitely be fighting the good fight, but I will absolutely not be working with the single-issue "oops, I accidentally helped bring fascism by completely failing to acknowledge the existence of a bigger picture" crowd - they're on their own. We couldn't count on them when it mattered, and I will not take that risk again.
I'm not saying they voted for Trump, but they were certainly sowing division against the only candidate likely to defeat him at the polls.
"Not Trump" was NOT a choice on the ballot, and the single, actual candidate with the most votes wins. Any vote not FOR Harris was a tacit vote for Trump. No third party was going to win, and abstaining is effectively saying "BoTh SiDeZ aRE tHe SAmE!".
They had a chance to help stop this and chose to do anything but. Again, fuck them.
Like someone else said: It’s like you’re hoping for things to get worse just to be able to say “I told you so” over and over again.
That person is an idiot (I say this not even reading their comment or knowing who you're referring to).
Nah. We had to listen to "gEnOcIDe jOe!!!1!" for the better part of a goddamn year from these people. I've got a LOT more "we fucking told you so" to get out of my system before I'm ready to move on let alone begin to forgive. The threat that is now reality was fully apparent, and these single-issue people still decided to hold the country hostage to "teach the dems a lesson". Fuck them. They've also shown they can't be counted on, so I'm in no hurry to make amends.
My empathy is all tied up with the marginalized groups, minorities, federal workers, and others already negatively affected by this administration. If some yokels in flyover states who voted for him get taken out by a tornado because they had to watch a 30 second ad before the weather alert would show up, I got nothing for them.

There's footage of the event.
