Whoops

  • Yeah that's a good way to put it. It's like so close to the thing you were dreading, that it's a sort of sick relief when it actually happens.

    It's like...

  • It was a huge shock to us all, all around the world, watching him go from attempting to run for president of the U.S., to actually attaining it. The best thing I can say for it, is that it shows that Americans have a genuine hunger for change. If it could just be directed in a productive way...

  • Ah reminds me of the time (back in the LAMP days) when I tried to apply this complicated equation that sales had come up with to our inventory database. This was one of those "just have the junior run it at midnight" type of shops. Anyway, I made a mistake and ended up exactly halving all inventory prices on production. See OP's picture for my face.

In retrospect, I'm thankful for that memory.

  • I'm going need a 90 minute documentary and a giant bowl of popcorn to absorb all this

  • Lambs to the cosmic slaughter, you level juice-less plebs

  • Yeah idk it seems to be some kind of liberal purity test these days. Many liberals respect the power of tradition, and religious ideology, even if they don't believe the text.

  • I also hate math, and am jealous of people who are good at it. I get anxiety just doing simple multiplications, and have to look everything up. That said, I'm a senior platform developer, and earn more than anyone else in my family, so like... math helps a lot, but you don't neeed it to be a real dev. Certainly not to be a hobbyist/hacker, like yourself.

  • I don't think you'll find many people on lemmy who will agree that the US is objectively right in virtually any conflict. I remember even on the day 9/11 was happening people were saying how this was the chicken coming home to roost. Civilians don't deserve any of this, but the actions of their country -- against their will -- started a chain reaction that lead to this terrorist attack.

That's not to excuse terrorist acts. But they don't come out of nowhere - they always feed on some legitimate grievance, or else they would have no recruits.

  • It's an apt editorialisation, but it's not the whole story. The difference is the full quote will sound reasonable enough to a lot of people with a religious background. For instance, I can see my grandparents nodding a long to this, as they mentally insert their own specifics in place of "evolution did it."

It's not so easily dismissed as just saying the crazy thing outright, without padding.

  • Oh gross I just looked up what cozycore is, and that is not my vibe. My vibe is more, like, actually cozy

  • Hahaha undeniably. But I'm more about the cozycore vibe these days.

  • This is anecdotal, but I think it's a good qualitative example. When I was marginally employed I was routinely drinking, smoking, and getting high. Well as routinely as I could afford. Even when I was homeless, first thing I did when I scored $40 for a day's work was go and buy a tallboy and a pack of cigarettes.

Fast forward, and now I have a fancy WFH job with good bennies and a future, and I no longer drink, smoke, or do drugs. Part of that is age, but it's not like I didn't want to quit those things. It's just that it got easier when life got more relaxing, and I could just chill out rather than try to escape.

  • Isn't it? It's my laptop wallpaper

  • Overall, good article, but it's this part I'm not so sure on...

Just last year, Greek rail workers also attempted to prevent tanks from being transported to Ukraine for use in the conflict there.

This is reference to blocking tanks going to aid Ukraine in defense of their country.

  • Taking the picture

  • Yeah he's definitely shown to have a soft spot, it's just that he views it as a moral failing, and not a redeeming characteristic
