You can't possibly know for sure that they aren't pushing/biased towards specific types of content that may sway opinions on purpose. They can absolutely push propaganda to non-Chinese populations. It doesn't have to be blatant, it's best for them if it's not.

I have the always on screen turned off and the only way to turn it on is the button or when a notification comes in. My battery lasts almost a month.

I feel like I've already gotten my money's worth with how much I've played the current version. If they somehow pull a cubeworld and make it worse, I'm sure the community would love to source an old and good version.

I choose to VPN to my home network, which has a piHole DNS running on it so I can keep my traffic obscured on any wifi I join while also having invasive ads blocked. It's convenient!

This isn't true for all of them. Some have a backlight strobing feature that flashes the display at their current refresh rate to reduce motion blur. It makes the strobing much worse at lower refresh rates, though.
