  • Updating user agent doesn't natter unless NYT is actively blocking that, too. Updating robots.txt is purely a "gentleman's agreement" that OpenAI will respect it. OpenAI would be dumb to ignore it, hat all said, because it'd trigger the lawyer shenanigans to ensue.

  • Retail managers are about the dumbest people I've ever worked with. All they know how to do is boss people with passive/submissive personalities around (poorly) and make up rules when things go awry. Also shifting blame onto others is a key skill in retail management.

  • I think that's a bit misleading, TBH. The attack was fairly well planned, and far from just a bunch of hillbillies. Yeah, they were a part of it, and part of the plan, but summarizing them as the brains behind the coup attempt is undercutting the risk of it being tried again.

  • Only if they proceed AND websites enforce it. The last reply I read from the Googler that was part of the draft spec said they were building in a guardrail that prevents sites from outright blocking non-compliant clients without also blocking a not insignificant portion of their desired userbase.
