Honestly? Stargate SG1. One of my favorite shows.

The whole theme of the first seven or so seasons was teching up and gathering allies to say "you're not my real dad/god" to the evil sufficiently advanced aliens.

But then having reached the end of that arc and wanting to keep the show going, they introduced some even more godly evil aliens who weren't just sufficiently advanced but were actual magic. I felt it deflated the point made in the whole first arc, that there ain't nobody better then you, to then trot out some evil canonically supernatural entities.

Check to see if there is a power differential here.

Are you an established adult with a Real Job and a nice apartment while she is struggling to figure out how to get out from under the thumb of her controlling family? Or is she happily making her own way in the world as a small farmer or boat salesperson or something while you have been futzing around painting skateboards and playing in a minor punk band?

Older people dating younger people can be wrong because it is easy for the older person to have too much power in the relationship. If you have something she really wants or needs that you can provide or withdraw at will or as a condition of the relationship, you should not date.

The engineers still can't get over how exciting they are.

Usually the parts that would need some optimization, like, say, using the CPU features properly, are things that are shared with a bunch of other people, and so good support for them makes it into the mainline kernel and from there to everybody.

If you think you have an unusual or super new system, you can look for a way to run newer or specially-optimized-for-your-hardware kernel builds. Or you can always get into compiling the kernel or other system components with the right optimizations or go-faster stripes for exactly your machine: Gentoo people like to do that.

The crack might not actually be protected by copyright, unless there's substantial new code added.

Check to make sure that the HOA actually has the power to do this. As a land owner you are bound to follow the covenants that run with the land, but you are only actually bound to follow those covenants. You don't have to do random stuff just because the HOA board or even a majority of the HOA voters say so, you only actually have to do what's in the covenants.

Unless the covenants say that you agree to follow a bunch of dog-related rules to be defined later, you almost certainly are allowed to park your dog in your own front yard or in that of any consenting neighbor.

Usually tools that people make to help people get stuff working properly when they are new is all about constraining the system to be set up right in the first place, rather than tuning or fixing it later. Rather than starting with a distro that needs a lot of fiddling and getting a tool to fiddle with it for you, you want to look for a distro that is designed to set itself up in a sensible configuration when you install it.

I see it as a list of reasons why you actually have to search for people to befriend. Like use an online system or run an ad in the newspaper or something, rather than just hope you already are going to encounter suitable people just going about your life.

I don't think not having any friend candidates handy is the same kind of problem as depression.

These are indeed reasons why people tend not to make friends as they get older.

But none of them are reasons why one couldn't make friends. All you need to do is find someone else who also wants to make friends, and then become friends. None of these make that actually impossible.

I can sort of imagine like a little program that tries to be smart and says "hey this thing is running and using a lot of CPU, and Chromium also wants a lot of CPU right now, so let me go ahead and renice this other process to lower its priority so Chromium can go faster". Or "gee the system is unusable because it is swapping, let me randomly kill stuff until it works again".

But I'm not sure there are a lot of options for that sort of userland tool, because being smart enough to do the right thing in those cases while not also doing a bunch of unexpected and possibly counterproductive stuff is hard. But maybe you can bolt a large language model to a root shell and see if it helps?

Really the kernel is supposed to just do the right thing all the time anyway. You might be able to find something that like changes your CPU governor when you go on and off battery? But mostly there are settings to tune like which CPU governor you want to be using or whether to compress stuff in RAM or how much the kernel should tend to swap stuff to disk, or what the fan speed ought to be at different temperatures, and if you want to make the system go faster you fiddle with those.

It's not though, right? Capital is stuff. Means of production. Land. Jet planes. Bridges. Sewing machines.

Money is just tokens that certain people are using to allocate actual capital amongst themselves.
