  • ...Changes which will never happen and will themselves cause untold suffering and millions of deaths, so no one will ever support them.

What we need is a method that would not negatively impact human standard of living. Human expansion into space would do it; we'll require the energy and resources up there to geoengineer in a non-stupid way and get the energy and resources to get off Exxon-Mobil's oily cock and undo ocean acidification anyway.

So let's do that instead. We can prevent the civil war that would erupt from climate austerity too.

  • It is to me. Most content is corporate generated consumerist garbage anyway so it doesn't matter. Our right to access content is more important than a creator's right to restrict access to it for profit. It's information and ideas. And we are entitled to all information and ideas. I am entitled to it simply because I say so, and if you want me to stop, you'll have to kill me.

    It's as simple as that.

  • Imagine thinking governments, fascists and PR agencies wouldn't migrate to wherever people choose to hang out and continue their decades-long campaign to brainwash people into believing whatever is convenient for them.

  • Sounds like a good reason for Ukraine to invade Moscow and drag Putin to the Hague then.

Actually I worry this is all a moot point anyway because the Russians really did rig the Zaphorzhiza plant to blow, meaning a nuclear conflict is probably going to be an inevitable conclusion to the whole thing regardless.

  • Other people explicitly don't do those things and suffer no consequences. And I am expected to sacrifice my health and well-being tolerating it for a low-status place in a society that never wanted me in the first place, so who exactly is benefitting from all of those sacrifices? Not me and not you. Only evil people who take advantage of it to benefit themselves and are willing to be aggressive to defend it get anything out of it, so my point stands. Being expected to sacrifice yourself for a greater good is immoral.

  • I really enjoy how people like you feel self-important while doing nothing but complaining.

You want to help the kids? Overturn or undermine Desantis's fucked up policies now, while those kids you're parading around have a chance. Set up tutoring servers on Discord. Set up online libraries full of banned books and spread the links everywhere. Be the change you want to see in the world. But don't you dare complain about institutions enforcing basic education standards on its students.

  • the notion that we all make minor sacrifices in our daily interactions in service of a “greater good” for everyone.

That's a talking point abusers and their supporters commonly use to convince victims to accept abuse and to continue to suffering.

No just society expects you to subordinate your unailenable right to defend yourself from violence, for example, but many states do, and they can and will arrest and imprison abuse victims for fighting back on those grounds.

Anyone who tells you to make sacrifices for the greater good is being immoral and should be ignored.

Greater goods do not require sacrifices.
