MARVEL vs. CAPCOM Fighting Collection Title Showcase Trailer: MARVEL SUPER HEROES vs. STREET FIGHTER

  • As the video says, it doesn't provide all the functionality that the Analogue Pocket has, but it's a very good alternative for a decent price!

  • I haven't played any Endless Ocean games, but it did look pretty cool! I think I might get it.

  • I think I've only played a few minutes of Dark Souls. The idea of having to play x amount of hours to "get good" and only then start enjoying the game doesn't appeal to me at all. Maybe it's a misconception, but that's what I was explained by a friend who had thousands of hours in this kind of game. That's definitely not for me if it's the case...

  • I don't know if soulslike are for me, but this looks pretty good!

  • You should check out the short story "Sleepover" by Alastair Reynolds.

  • I ended up playing Double Dragon Gaiden: Rise of the Dragons. I finished the game in one sitting, so it's not too long. I owed @slimerancher@lemmy.world a short review of this game from a few months ago!

Last time I played this game I had recently been playing Streets of Rage 4 and TMNT: Shredder's Revenge, I think I was expecting it to be like those games, but it's a different thing. I did enjoy it much more this time around. I was also playing solo, whereas last time it was co-op.

They really went for replayability with this one. The order in which you play the initial 4 stages affects the whole run, since stages will be different depending on the order you play them, which is interesting. Now that I finished the game in a certain order, I do feel like doing another run in a different order. The upgrades at the end of each stage do help, making it easier to face harder stages as you advance.

The different characters are also essential to the gameplay, as is the case in many Beat 'em ups. My playthrough was with Billy and Jimmy, and to me, Billy sucks compared to other characters. I mostly used him while recovering Jimmy's energy in the background. I already started a new run with Jimmy and Uncle Martin, who is amazing and super strong. You can unlock new characters as you collect tokens when you finish the game. I've unlocked Abobo, which should be fun to play! The tagging system adds some fun with the energy management between your two characters, and can also affect the gameplay more depending on the upgrades you choose.

The big defect I still find is how sometimes you get unlucky, and you've been doing great all stage and with one trap or succession of enemies you get your entire life bar taken out. It's like a loop of bad things happening to your character you can't stop (or maybe I haven't learned how to break this). But this happened maybe twice or three times.

Overall, a fun beat 'em up, I'm definitely going to play some more and unlock more characters, and it's a fun one for co-op too.

  • Bizarrely, Microsoft is refusing to name the four titles, but the company says that two are community-driven games and the other two are smaller titles.

  • It’s nintendo that’s almost exactly what they will do

    Absolutely 😅

  • Trip World DX is almost like a Kirby homage, except they originally came out the same year! The character designs are in a similar style, the main character shapeshifts into different forms, and it's pretty simple and easy. I'd say the graphics are quite more detailed, that's what caught my attention. Let me know what you think after you've played it!

  • Ooft, that sucks, glad I could help 😁 I think I had to resuscribe back when this happened. This is such a great channel, and they've been doing amazing work recently!

  • So fun! One of the best Game Cube games!

  • Last weekend we wanted to check out Mortal Kombat 1 again and have some fights, but it needed a massive 1 hour+ update. So we ended up playing MK 11 instead. We did play MK 1 later, and though there seem to be some improvements, this game still sucks on the Switch! I'm almost hoping for a version for whatever the next Nintendo console is, hopefully it'll be more optimized and it's more powerful hardware. I tried playing the story campaign and even the video freezes every now and then. Right now I wouldn't suggest anyone to get Mortal Kombat 1 on Switch...

I'm playing Trip World DX since I got the physical version from Limited Run this week. I'll probably finish it this weekend, it's a fairly short game.

I've also been playing Donkey Kong Country again, once I finish it I'll continue with the two other SNES ones. I started playing Donkey Kong Land on the Game Boy before that. But although it's an amazing port, I don't think I can stand it to the end 😅

  • We talked a bit about this in a previous thread. The Switch has a massive user base, and the game is 20 years old, so there'll be A LOT of people who haven't played the original. It'll also appeal to nostalgia for some of the people who played it when it came out. While Nintendo might be saving bigger titles for their next console, they still need to release stuff so people keep buying the Switch in the meantime. And my guess is remakes are cheaper and faster to publish than entirely new games.

Also regarding new content, from the article in the linked thread:

Thankfully, while most of its early levels are virtually identical to the original, the game’s fourth world is entirely new to the Switch version – the first of two new worlds in the remake – and it does introduce some original mechanics.

  • There's a demo available, I think I will check it out...

  • I guess it makes sense for people like me who've never played the original. Also there's lots of people who hadn't been born when this came out and now own a Switch!

Nintendo need to offer something to keep selling Switches before they announce whatever is next, remakes are probably rather easy/cheap to spit out. I wonder why there haven't been more Zelda remakes on Switch. Where's the Oracles series in the Link's Awakening remake engine? 😭

Personally, having such a healthy backlog, I don't think I'm going to go for this one just now...

  • Hopefully there'll be a Direct next month and these reports will stop 😅 Although I think it was way worse before the Switch and all the NX "leaks" and "reports".

  • Yeah but this one some guy from Omdia said the specific stuff about the screen 🤷 The "report" is all over the place so I thought I'd just post it here for discussion 😬
