  • @Blaze A colleague of mine had the M8. Man, what a great device! It had awesome cameras for that time and could even record videos in slow motion. Nowadays, I take this feature for granted for the last 3 phones I had, but at that time this just seemed revolutionary!

  • @mormund I used to store them in a paper notebook, away from the prying eyes of malware and other shenanigans. Now I also have them in a password manager for easy access in case I need them, if the account supports 2FA TOTP.

    The main channel has been on version 3.6 while stable and main are both on 3.5.

    And which version was the beta channel?

  • @GadgeteerZA it's not really that new, it's been around for as long as Mastodon got the first boost back in Autumn 2022 (at least that's when I first heard about it, something like that). There's plenty of other microblogging servers out there, as microblogging is overwhelmingly served via AP and not only. There's even a Nextcloud app for that.

    Check out the list below and sort by Social network (micro):

  • @BearOfaTime That's odd. My experience with micro USB cables is actually the poorer one. Cables would have their pins worn down all the time and become loose. My current phone has USB C and I had no problem so far. I use the same cable since I purchased it.

  • @Blaze It is larger than I thought, indeed 😁 but I see they still tend to stick with stock Android even though they're not really releasing any android one phones any longer.

  • @Blaze I'm not buying phones that often, but I recently changed to a Nokia G22 (yes, they also have phones with jack), and one of the things that made me decide on that was the jack as well. I got a pair of wireless headsets from work and I can say they're pretty good, but I am still not over the thought that I have one more thing to charge its battery every once in a while. Wired headphones are pretty much okay and I don't see any problem with them that would make me switch (at least right now).

    Edit: I almost forgot. I also listen to the (FM) Radio, so I need the wired headsets to be used as an antenna.

  • Fuck yeah, let's do that shit again!

  • @jeena cool. I think I will look into it. Thanks! 😁

  • @jeena it doesn't connect to any server even when you're online?

  • @jeena I only use DeepL to translate and that's it. I also started taking notes in .md files, so that could make for a good use case in the future if there was an AI that I could use without connecting to the internet (e.g. to only let me tell stuff based on the files I got). Otherwise I am pretty reticent on AI. Perhaps I watched too many fiction movies, but I am afraid it will become too sentient and somehow escape the human oversight, thus creating havoc in our lives.

  • @hedge Wow, this is big. Fedi needs more macroblogging options to compensate for the domination of Mastodon and other microblogging platforms. And also it being another corporate actor like Meta, but smaller, will create the incentive for Meta to play more fairly in the long run and not EEE the Fediverse with Threads, just like it did with XMPP by integrating it under Facebook almost a decade ago. This is exactly what we need to become and stay mainstream.

  • @DieguiTux8623 Latin brotherhood 🤜🤛 Never letting technology make our lives easier.

  • @Stillhart yea, you can, but that means trusting the third party providing the apk. Besides that, China also has a big power over the internet. They could outright block the apps from working altogether only by cutting the connection. Especially with Threads and WhatsApp where you cannot choose any proxy within the app.

    In fact, I think they already did it.

    @Sgn

  • @Wahots guess they'll do just like they did with ublock origin ¯(ツ)/¯.

    <details class="spoiler"><summary>Reveal/hide</summary>I still use ublock origin without an issue</details>

  • @Gonkulator one of them that is the most active really is a Russian living in the West, yet is rolling Kremlin propaganda like crazy. You can find him on Mastodon as well, with his real name displayed on his website.

    @NiaTheCat

  • @ElCanut geee, I wonder how did they make Microsoft Access.
