  • Not necessarily, climate change and nuclear war easily have the capacity to end all life I suppose at that point it stops being our problem but it's not ideal

  • If you're exposing via cloudflare tunnels instead of pointing at your public IP then eveything other people have said covers it. If you are using your public IP then it's worth blocking non-cloudflare IPs from accessing the site directly

    • politics around what instances are federated with what others is often not obvious and leads to confusing scenarios
    • despite it being the main benefit, smaller independent instances will close down often leading to frustration
    • client, platform, even platform version differences will lead to fragmentation and confusion
    • the UX of community driven projects tends to be quite poor and doesn't tend to get much better with time
    • the main benefit of the fediverse in this form isn't immediately obvious to the user and has immediate drawbacks for them
    • the culture on lemmy is very anti mainstream
    • instance owners will power trip and cause problems, be caught leaking or abusing private information or imposing rediculous rules
    • links shared on other platforms can't be easily interacted with unless your account is on that specific instance
  • If someone is able to intercept WhatsApp messages, they aren't using it to look at photos of your baby they're using it to spy on government officials
