  • Yeah; it’s very strange. The new online norm seems to be “don’t buy anything from a company if the primary person is a jerk.”

Meanwhile everyone online is buying stuff from jerks. They are just less vocal about it.

I REALLY don’t care to research every company I buy something from. Even if I know the primary person is a jerk, I still don’t care unless there is a near equal alternative.

  • Data point of one, but I bought the cheapest Model 3 model back in 2020, added FSD (was $6k at the time I think) and have had no issue with mine. FSD is not ‘full self driving’, but I’ve been using it continuously since the update a few months ago.

I despise car culture, and it is the least car like car that I could buy. It does most of the driving, it is safer than most, it has no ongoing emissions, and per mile is cheaper than a gas car.

  • I did that too; it was during Covid :)

I think/acted similar to you… which is why I think we might all be common minding.

That said, people that aren’t motivated to do good things are most likely motivated to do nothing… so it might not be a big deal if they don’t show up for a job.

TLDR: fewer workers at Burger King probably would t make service worse

  • I love the idea of UBI. But I can’t help but worry I’m wrong.

My love for UBI assumes that idle hands will make themselves useful in productive, please or at least non-destructive ways.

I’m not clear I can justify that

  • UBlock is much more reliable than no script in my experience. It’s also usually obvious when it breaks; no script sometimes isn’t obvious until you hit submit and notice none of what you typed actually got sent.

  • Ok… but then why would they pay to have it done in the first place?

I’ve solved issues that have saved transit riders hundreds of thousands of hours of time… but so have other people. I don’t know how such an accounting of the return for investment I made would work.

When my solutions stop working as well, due to misc design/need drift, how do we decide how much I lose and the next me gets?.

  • I think this is true for everything… we just notice it when we’re the ones ahead.

Some people can’t change tires, some can’t cook, some can do basic plumbing, some can’t remove appendixes, some can’t swim… whatever.

Granted, I think the main divide were all on the good side of is “some people know how to search, some people don’t”

  • Was just about to say this. I finally switched today because Chrome tried to sign me up automatically for a bunch of ‘privacy enhancements’ which do the opposite.

The only thing I’m having trouble finding a good version of is tab groups.

I want tab groups that I can collapse and expand at will. Not one that hides my tabs, and which I can’t see two tab groups concurrently.

  • How do admins actually work on Lenny? Do they also review what the users are saying on other instances?

I expected that each !topic had its own admins, as (other than obviously offensive stuff) a comment’s acceptability depends on the context.

(A bad example ‘Hitler did nothing wrong’ is probably bannable in any history sub; but is fine in !bizzaroSuperman)

Edit: I suspect many people are like me and using an app that doesn’t make it obvious what instance they are getting info from. I have subscriptions, but fediverse is still relatively small so I end up browsing All after I quickly get through the subscription feed.

  • So I’ve been in discussions like this for equipment on trains. It functionally goes:

You paid for X. The hardware we plan to use for faster build supports X+Y. You can either:

    1. pay for Y
    2. have us artificially prevent Y
    3. wait until the hardware that just does X comes in

I actually agree with the options prevented above. I just think that, as the owner, you should still have the right to reverse item 2 if you can figure out how. Especially if it’s out of warranty.
