  • Right, and part of the problem is these hawks (the kind who own 2400 pubs) would then fly in with that much more VC$ and scoop up 5x that amount if something like this passed(which is of course why they're the ones suggesting it). I'm all for the idea, but big companies don't get little guy breaks for the 1-2 pub proprietor, they can play with the adults and take the loss with that kind of operation and revenue. If their business model is literally "we can't turn a profit--we'll make it up in volume" they have issues that shouldn't necessitate corporate welfare.

  • I agree with your assessment of current state; add in a few cohorts of 10 commandments in classrooms, reduced access to birth control because they're taken out of schools, reduced education because the DOE has been rebranded and now education takes place through public school Grok portals or God knows what, sexual content is heavily censored and restricted which doesn't do good things for teen pregnancy rates.

Lol drive across state lines? In the palantir big brother world of 5 years from now? Read up on the data gathering and now nearly realtime tracking of movement that can and is being done by "law enforcement" and red state government agencies in the name of stopping abortion. Just like how facial recognition of protestors will be weaponized, the new fascists will take anything they get their mits on and warp it to their ends.

  • Violent crime about to explode as abortion now illegal in many places--the knock-on effects of it pretty well isolated as the only reasonable explanation to the sudden drop in violent crime in the mid 90s that has continued through today and was a central thesis in Freakonomics.

With abortion now illegal, hushed up, or hidden in many states, the crime and its vicious cycle will return. Bet your money, when those who would have otherwise been aborted come of crime age in ~15 years, full Judge Dredd world will be on in the US. Teen pregnancy, from the 2nd generation of otherwise aborted kids, will of course explode to the delight of evangelicals everywhere.

  • This goes right up there with stock chart technical analysis. "It's definitely this. Though it can also be this. Or that. And it depends on the person. And the context. And...

It's so messy/noisy with variables, stuff like this just gives people false confidence that they know who/what someone is or what something represents. Psuedoscience

  • Both companies are owned by a large Japanese conglomerate. They got lucky with indeed, and have used little of its unbelievable market share to solidify it's position and improve the product. Indeed, properly managed, would print money and go parabolic as a stock. Instead it's just sat there because both sites suck and exist on inertia.

  • I was on the fence about attending a world cup (it would be my first) when the sleaze has been trying to say it's "his" for the last year. Since FIFA has been corrupt forever it probably means I won't be able to enjoy it as much because I'll be considering what I'd be endorsing. It's disappointing, I've wanted to go to one since I was a kid but considering there will probably be ICE raids in the concourse or psychopaths trying to drive trucks into the crowd to kill the [insert group] I'll have to forgo it.

I'm surprised I have heard anything about boycott here--therr was a ton of push for that during Qatar build up around human rights, and nothing for this? I'd hope the US gets boycotted by whole nations ala East German/Russian Olympics.

  • Between skeletal structure, evolution and biology we have a damn good idea. While we may not know exactly what skin color adapted to a given period 70 million years ago in a certain region or how much feathers some might have had I guess I understood we had a compelling body of ideas drawn from research at this point for many species. What are the parts you're referring to that are so unknown?

  • Haha, I bought 200 shares at $10.12 and sold at $12 along with a bit of other stocks I had because I needed a down payment for my house. After splits since, last time I decided to depress myself looking at one of those calculators it would be like 800k.

I've learned playing (free) poker though, you'll eat yourself alive if you focus on the woulda/could/shoulda and end up making more mistakes. In poker (and investing) you do the best you can with incomplete information and sometimes it sucks. Move on.

  • I work in HR. I might steal this as some perspective for when someone insults the collective intelligence by claiming they couldn't have known and shouldn't suffer any consequences.

Bad HR immediately posts a sign saying Soda pouring near inclined load conveyance is prohibited by Management and has everyone take escalator soda slip safety training.

Good HR fires the dipshit as an example of what happens to dipshits, so people self-regulate and much less collective time can be spent on Stupid island having moronic conversations.
