  • Yeah, I share the feeling. Not sure if the problem lies on Wayland or Nvidia but hopefully if Wayland becomes the standard they'll address the elephant in the room!

  • Waiting for the driver to reach the repos to try it out. I am hopefull in an Hyprland future! You know, some day!

  • X11 development is dead so it really is just a matter of time before Wayland is the norm and you'll be saying stuff like "back in my days we used X11 and we liked it!"

  • I don't think anyone is an X11 fan boy. We all know Wayland is the future. I would be using it if it worked on my machine.

  • I can only hope plasma6 has serious improvements on Wayland compatibility with nvidia drivers because plasma5 is unusable.

Yes, I know it works on your machine. It doesn't work on mine :P

  • Proton drive is okay but if you rely on editing the docs online... That's a rough one

  • In the last months I tried to cut as many Google services as I could. I use the Proton suite now, it's nice.

Unfortunately I still heavily rely on them for Android phone and TVs... Not to mention YouTube, which is yet to have a good competitor.

  • In my case, windows start to flickr intensively after a while. I tried a bunch of flags and workarounds but nothing worked for me.

I use the proprietary driver, though.

  • Unfortunately this ended up not fixing my problem :(

  • Even the most basic actions, like walking, require time to learn. Linux has some very user friendly distributions like Ubuntu or Linux Mint where you can basically auto-learn really fast. You don't have to start with Arch Linux nor should you.

Linux will never compete with Windows because most people will never bother to change whatever OS came with their laptop. That had nothing to do with the community.

  • What's the appropriate size for a home partition, though?

  • QGIS is a very nice piece of software, definitely worth checking out. Some of our geographers use Mapinfo (proprietary) but most use QGIS. Everyone hates ESRI.

Some of your classes might require some ESRI plugins... I would check with your teachers if it's okay to use QGIS, they will certainly know the answer to that question.

  • I actually have grown to hate the Portuguese layout, or ISO in general. Why is the enter key so damn big? I currently own a Happy Hacking Keyboard 2 and can't imagine living without it.

  • You want to game on your work machine?? Okay.

It's more like the other way around, I happen to work on my gaming machine :P Cheers!

  • Well, right after posting I found a working solution. Doh!

    Solution here, works great.

  • Fair point with Adobe but I was pleasantly surprised when I tried gaming on Linux. Stuff just works, zero technical knowledge required. Run Steam, launch the game.

Not sure how long ago you tried gaming but Valve has done an amazing work for gaming in Linux.

  • Do they use Arch official repositories or is it like manjaro where they have their own repo?

  • But Google is the market leader and has the same practices, why are you only asking for MS to be punished? Google is just as shady.
