When you talk about technological development causing us problems, do you mean social media like Facebook and X? Besides that what else do you see? Perhaps economies being connected in real-time, with international shipping? I think that obsession has driven people mad. For a while a lot of people were able to get rich, but now we've hit the limit of greed and out-sourcing. The only people who believe in globalism and global trade are people who are rich from it.

I agree, nothing new with problems in the world, and people not adapting to change, but how many people have a historical perspective that allows them to understand this? I think in terms of 1000 or 2000 years ago because I play Age Of Empires and all its DLCs, so I've heard of things like the Chola Empire, Princess Yodit, etc. I see the patterns.

I didn't grow up in a loud house, and I never played multiplayer on the first Xbox, didn't even play multiplayer on the 360. I regret not trying more of the arcade games though. My ping sucks in this country, and I never got used to voice chat while gaming. I'm too autistic to play the game and talk at the same time, so sometimes I just go quiet while I'm thinking xD

Also happening with the parking company "Smart Compliance Management" who will fine people even late at night for parking in an empty car park. If you don't pay, they destroy your credit file's reputation. Watch out for that one, they often have little or no signage on car parks, or there's only signage on one entrace, made to be as difficult to see as possible.

I see typos in the Christchurch Press sometimes. RNZ has been reduced to click-bait and cheap trash. Every article is either "do you know this one weird hack about non-stick frying pans?" or "the women who... [insert achievement]".

Reddit needs to stop worshipping RNZ and Stuff. I'd rather live in the dark than have to visit the stuff website or read their disgraceful newspapers which are filled with advertising.

You're one of the awake people who sees it, I like that. The problem with New Zealand is not "tall poppy syndrome" or "she'll be right". The problem is that we are a hyper-sensitive shame-based society, but at the same time, we're too afraid to call people out on their bull**** so the crooks feel bold. Mechanics will put busted brake pads into your car so you have to come back, and in the building industry has plenty of tricks too.

New Zealanders need to wake the **** up and stop being so dopey and slow. We have websites where you can write reviews for tradies. We as a society need to stop trusting everyone and being so superficially fake. Just because someone addresses you by name and makes polite small-talk as they invoice you, that doesn't mean you can trust them. In fact, the more fake friendly people are, the more they try to build rapport with me, when I don't even know them outside of their job, the least likely I am to trust them.

A long time ago in 2015 I worked under a house in east christchurch, just for a couple of days on a temp contract. I never did this type of work again. Anyways the house was on jacks and I had to dig the clay and smooth it down to a certain mm depth. Then they wanted me to install insulation in the roof. So I went up there with a cheap fabric protective suit and goggles and a mask. The mask kept expelling hot air from my breath around the edges, which fogged up my goggles. I couldn't see anything and there was all this fibre/dust floating around. In the end I just gave up because I couldn't even see what the hell I was doing, and I couldn't take the goggles off or my eyes would get filled with weird dust from the old bats.

When I explained that I couldn't do the damn job, one of the guys on site scoffed and grunted at me, but didn't use any English words, just a scoff and a grunt. These are the punks and pieces of crap that you will often meet in the construction industry. At least one of them will openly tell you what pornography they like to masturbate to, and their manager will ask every candidate at the interview, if they have a girlfriend. Weird bunch of people with no morality... and no taste in music either. Just perverts and thugs who think that the Rock FM is the best radio station in the universe.

Mechanics often have the same attitude. Every town and city has one punk who is a total asshole. He will do work for most people without any issue, but as soon as a woman or a young guy shows up, the mechanic charges them heaps more and rips them off... Doing jobs that they never actually did, or putting broken components into someone's car, risking people's lives just so the customer comes back a few months later and pays to fix the damage that the mechanic did in the first place.

Basically, New Zealanders are too trusting and gullible. I'm very sceptical about everything these days and I wouldn't hesitate to turn down an employment offer or get a 2nd opinion on something. I don't care how polite someone is, I want to know their reputation, motivations and background. You can look up Psychopathic Personality Disorder to learn more. I always want to know basics: Who knows this person? How can I ensure that they won't do a poor job and run off with the money? What are my options to destroy this person's reputation or drag them through the courts? How far should I pursue this person to teach them a lesson and warn others?

A lot of crap is justified in this country on the basis of "muh struggles to make ends meet" and that's why you'll often hear that the cash machine is broken. People will tell a lie if they think they can get away with it, and you'll be shocked to see how much cover these assholes have. When I worked for an e-scooter company a few years ago, our warehouse was looted by former employees who had the access codes. They came in and stole laptops from the office, they stole a power bank, and they also stole the central hub for all the CCTV cameras. We didn't even notice this for several days. It turns out that there were dozens of PINs that could deactivate the alarm and nobody ever revoked access codes, even though we knew that previous workers were extremely dodgy, never got any work done, and were basically taking advantage of the company.

You can't really trust anyone these days. I also heard a story about a dodgy builder in 2017. I wasn't there at the time, but the guy was installing window restrictors and he claimed that "the job took a bit longer" so he charged a bit more. We couldn't prove anything as we weren't there at the time, so the owner just had to pay what the builder asked. New Zealanders need to sharpen up and start watching people like hawks. There are heaps of deadbeat tradies. Some of them are good and they just happen to enjoy practical work, but there are also guys who just sucked at maths and english, failed in life, and they do tradie jobs because you can be pretty thick and still do that kind of work. Once I worked with carpet layers on a short contract and there was some joke in the van, because the other 2 guys were laughing and I didn't know what was so funny. Must have been the weed or the glue they were sniffing earlier that morning.

Ripping people off, stealing from your own company, driving with no lights on at night (or having only one functioning bulb) - these are just normal kiwi activities and it's our right by birth to do these things. If there are no consequences, if they think they can get away with it, then they probably will. Personally I think there should be more sting operations (even shows like Target), people need to back up their friends and investigate jobs that other people have done, and we need to build bigger prisons and actually punish these people. Start locking a few people up with no exceptions for mental health, and watch as everyone suddenly starts behaving themselves LOL

There is no reason to be reasonable with people these days. Who the **** gives $15,000 before someone even starts a job? People who own houses need to be smarter. As soon as you reveal that you own a house, and have additional money to renovate it, it's just a license to steal. I try to reveal as little as possible about myself. If I catch on that someone is ****ing with me, then I up my security. You can't be too social or reveal too much to people or they'll take advantage. New Zealand has a culture of being back-biting, back-stabbing little twits. Even when you catch someone running a scam they will lie about it and pretend you are just crazy and have got the wrong person or wrong info. The crooks are ashamed of nothing, but are offended by everything. Like if you even accuse them of doing a shoddy job or being dishonest, they will play the victim and do everything they can to gain sympathy, turn people against you, or at least, buy time so they can keep scamming as many people as possible.

They overlap because they are all rejects and failures with no prospects.

Incels are just men who fail in every way in which it's possible to fail. Lack of pssy is just a normal result of having no money, no status and no job.

I'm not religious and I've never been a member of any church. I'm quoting Matthew 19:12, it says eunuch but in modern language it should say incel.

It's almost as if our society is designed to create more incels. Personally I am a volcel. Society is a cruel joke and I'd rather become an orthodox priest, than work 12 hours a day in a busy warehouse, driving forklifts or carrying timber. Sometimes I question why I bother contributing to society.

There is already a free speech platform called Gab Social, which follows America's 1st amendment. How could a fool like Liz Truss pretend to care about free speech, when people in her country routinely get the police at their door for posting memes? It's hard to say, but a guy on a bicycle said "slava ooocrane" and one guy in a car said f*** putin. That was in the course of 1 hour and 10 minutes. It's hard to judge how many people recognise it, but dozens of people do, I'm sure. Some people older than me will know the modern RF flag from the end of the Soviet Union. @BalpeenHammer@lemmy.nz Quite a lot of people, in fact. How many tricolour flags are there with white-blue-red? Maybe the flag of the Netherlands, which goes red-white-blue? The only other similarity is the Serbian flag, which is the Russian flag but upside-down. Other flags such as the French flag are vertical bars of colour, which is obviously quite different. Don't ask me how so many people young and old know the Russian flag, but they know it from somewhere. Maybe they read books or played Call Of Duty or War Thunder.

The New Zealand government isn't acting in good faith, they spread false information about the war in Ukraine, they will spread false information about China too if we let them. They will create a narrative that China is bad and China is bombing the children's hospitals in Taiwan, or that China is using chemical weapons 1,000,000 times against Taiwanese soldiers. The government and media will tell lies to get New Zealanders emotionally worked up, in favour of a war against China.

I won't rule out everything that ilovethebomb says. The Chinese government could get angry with another country and invade them - just think about what could happen in 30 years or 50 years from now. There will be more wars and somehow people in the future will be surprised. Some people are apparently surprised that Russia and Ukraine are at war. I was watching RT today and they said that the Americans have built up their air base at Tinian. The same island where the bomber "Enola Gay" flew after nuking Japan.

We could end up fighting a war, even if it's decades from now. The government argues that we should fund the military a lot more, and presumably put our military on some Pacific Islands to deter China. It could work for a while, but if China ever gets into a dispute with us and we don't back down, NZ or another country could be invaded. In this scenario, the government would control all media and start drafting men for a war that can't be won. Just because we can vote in elections it doesn't mean that the government can't manipulate the public with propaganda and make poor decisions.

No. Unless Russia's economy crumbles in the next 1-2 years, then the war is lost for Ukraine. The Americans have dug themselves into a very deep hole. The Americans had bet everything on the chance that Russia would face defeat in 2022 or 2023. Now that it hasn't worked out, the Americans have no choice but to dump the problem onto other countries.

Will more economic sanctions on Russia and more weapons for Ukraine change anything? They have tried that for 3 years now and nothing changed. The media and the politicians have tricked many people into believing in Zelensky. He's a Saint in english-speaking nations. Ukraine can do no wrong. Yet support for Ukraine is lukewarm among the population. I held the Russian flag at one of Christchurch's busiest intersections 2 weeks ago. Hundreds of people saw the flag, but only 2 people made a comment disagreeing with me. I actually got more friendly toots than anything. People are tired of hearing about the war in Ukraine. Russia hasn't done anything to New Zealand and this war problem isn't ours to fix.

When fluoride is added to the water it's applied at around 3 parts per million. In toothpaste it's usually 800 ppm or as high as 1300 ppm. So why aren't they putting in 50x or 100x more fluoride, to help our teeth? Oh that's right, it's toxic and you're not meant to drink it. Please reconsider your stance on this. Fluoride will cost a ridiculous amount of money with no benefit.

I had numerous fillings as a child because I drank coke all the time. I had my last filling in 2003, at age 13. Since then I've used a mix of fluoride and Red Seal Baking Soda / Strong Mint toothpaste, and I've never had any fillings or pain. There is no fluoride here in Christchurch water, my dental health is a result of my good choices. We cannot force people to make good choices about their health, but we can give them information and encourage them in the right direction.

Supporting fluoride is the ultimate un-scientific, nanny-state solution for people who believe in the power of the state - more than they believe in the ability of citizens to make better choices. We need to get fluoride out of the water and treat it like a menace, like chlorine. I don't want to spend thousands of dollars on a filter to get rid of fine fluoride particles. Just don't add it to the water. It doesn't do any good for anyone. Junk science + cope.
