  • That option 2 is even being considered and still has a good shot at winning the presidency would seem to be proof that American democracy is deeply broken. Maybe it’s the education system, the two-party duopoly, the selling out of one party to Russia, foreign interference in general, corruption and the role of private money in elections/politics, a partisan Supreme Court, and/or just the election process itself. If a dipshit like that has a shot while blatantly campaigning on fascism, something’s not right.

  • I’m not really burned out on superhero movies per se, I got burned out on Disney’s shitty writing. It’s just endemic to everything they do anymore, whether it’s Marvel or Star Wars or anything. Kid movies usually get a pass cause they’re whatever, but it’s almost insulting to watch media that makes the barest attempts at telling a coherent story. Maybe <10% of what they put out is “quality”, the rest just ends up being absolute drivel. I just got tired of getting mad at how bad the writing was while watching their stuff.

It’s almost formulaic at times, they just sort of move from one plot point to another with the barest of logic. You can see characters doing dumb things solely in order to move the plot forward to the next scene. I’m not expecting Shakespeare, but it’s almost like Disney’s scripts are actually written by an AI, maybe She-Hulk wasn’t that far off the mark.

  • That seems like something they should’ve waited to reveal during the movie, like had some misdirection about RDJ just being in it for a flashback or a recorded video, just downplay it and make it seem small. Then bust the revelation out midway through the movie.

  • Obviously just locker room talk. People are just taking his comments about ending democracy and becoming a dictator on day one out of context. He’s speaking metaphorically.

–“Centrists” still voting for Trump, probably

  • I have encountered this issue before when I tried using Obsidian my RPG pdf collection (10,000s of files), would not recommend. I do still like Obsidian and will keep using it, but would something like Trillium work as a sort of PDF library software for a massive amount of files like that? The main need is to be able sort/categorize game systems using tags, link to pdfs, and maybe have some sort of Dataview-esque query capabilities. Zotero is the least worst option, but it still has some annoyances for me and I’ve still been looking for something that could help me organize better. I know this is billed as a note-taking app, so it’s a weird use-case, but Obsidian was pretty close to being a decent solution, if not for the slow speed issues.

  • It definitely changes the game for Democrats, though it's too early to tell how it plays out. I was really turned off to the idea of a Harris run, but her not being an old white guy might be her biggest asset. Her not being particularly charismatic might also endear her more to people, in a weird way it might make her seem more authentic, but it's way too early to tell.

  • Yeah, but are they paying any of their own money to take care of those kids for two decades? As a parent, I'm involved in my kids' lives on a daily basis and I've been given an additional set of legal responsibilities & obligations. Society expects more from me in order to raise my kids (though I did willingly take that on by becoming a parent). You raise a good point though that further muddies the idea, what about legal guardians or adults who help out kids, who decides who gets that extra voting power? And then with delinquent parents, why should they be entitled to more voting power? It also further disenfranchises the LGBTQ+ community as well, so yeah, it's just fraught with way too many issues.

  • On the one hand, I think that it's a stupid idea being pushed for ideological reasons meant to favor the Religious Right. On the other hand though, as a parent, it does make a certain amount of sense to me that parents should potentially get more votes than non-parents. Not because we're better or more deserving than non-parents or anything, but because we have more "skin in the game", we've got more at stake, we've got our children's future lives to consider. Parents deal with school funding issues that might be decided by a bunch of voters who decide, "I don't have any kids, why should my tax dollars go towards school funding?" Being responsible for the livelihood of other people maybe should give you additional votes for people who can't vote themselves.

Still though, it does go against the idea of one person, one vote and opens the door for all sorts of other multipliers to muddy the voting process. Will veterans then get extra votes because they've done more for the country? Do other groups stand to gain extra votes for whatever reason? It has all sorts of potential for getting abused if any exception is made for anyone, so ultimately probably shouldn't be a thing.

I hate Vance and want Trump & him to crash and burn hard this election, BUT... I'm not sure I totally hate this idea.

  • People raised with the same ideas as their parents/friends/society aren't going to magically change just because they come from a younger generation. When Millennials start coming into power, there are still going to be Millennials on both sides of the political divide. The Republican ones will likely be just as insane, if not worse than the Boomers or the Gen Xers. It's not like Millennials are just magically going to all be progressive and everything changes. Any of them getting into politics are going to become part of the mainstream political culture and internalize their political beliefs as they learn from their elders. The Right is much more organized about maintaining their ideas and pushing their beliefs, that's why they work so hard to suppress the other side.
