  • It goes back to the Broken Windows theory about crime. The Broken Windows Theory in criminology posits that visible signs of crime, antisocial behavior, and civil disorder create an environment that encourages further criminal activity. These visible signs, such as broken windows or graffiti, signal a lack of order and law enforcement, leading to more serious crimes.

So, the more we let these billionaires and radical far-Right extremists keep breaking windows, like what they did on January 6, the more they'll be encouraged to keep doing it. We (society) are letting them do it without consequences, so there's no incentive for them to ever stop.

  • With that sound logic they've got going on, that you can't be both Black AND Indian at the same time? How is that not a winning argument? Whoever heard of being biracial? Obviously, you can only be one race at a time, and obviously some races are better than others. I just don't understand what's so hard to get. /s

  • That sounds like something a weirdo would say. If you have to talk about how "not weird" you are, that makes you weird. A real "non-weird" person would accept how weird just being a human being in general is and lean into it. He should just come out and admit how weird he really is, that wouldn't be weird.

  • It seems more like a niche thing that's useful for generating rough drafts or lists of ideas, but the results are hardly useable on their own and still require additional work to finesse them. In alot of ways, it reminds me of my days working on a production line with welding robots. Supposedly these robots could do hundreds/thousands of parts without making a mistake... BUT that was never the case and people always needed to double-check the robot's work (different tech, not "AI", just programmed movements, but similar-ish idea). By default, I just don't trust really anything branded as "AI", it still requires a human to look over what it's done, it's just doing a monotonous task and doing it faster than a person could, but you still can't trust what it gives you.

  • Sorry for your loss. Unless you were going to work out a cure for cancer on your own, there was nothing you could’ve done, except just be there. My Dad died about four years ago now after he had a massive stroke, he was in hospice for about a week or two. And all I could do the whole time was just sit there and watch my Dad die in front of me. Him physically dying was a release more than anything, mentally though I think he had been gone awhile before that. He had had a previous stroke two years earlier and little by little parts of his personality started dying off. By the time his body died, the person I’d known my whole life had already been gone, he was just a shell. It was like watching him die in slow motion, little by little, day by day.

  • It's both the best and worst time ever to be alive for someone with a halfway functional brain. Science is making all sorts of incredible advances and we're learning different things about the universe. Then you turn around and there's large swaths of the population that are apparently purposefully ignorant about the most basic stuff that is integral to the running of the country, and we're dependent on these same people to go vote to help save democracy.

  • Yeah, trying to overthrow the government and create a theocratic dictatorship, run by a probable amoral atheist felon who is functionally illiterate is pretty weird. Life in general has just been weird for the past 10 years now, but I feel like a large part of it is caused by Republicans in general enabling weird shit to happen.

  • Custom Card Deck app (iOS). I just want to be able to add a bunch of custom images as a deck of cards (front/back), then just draw a random card from that deck, and have multiple card decks like this that I can switch between and draw from. Doesn't even need to keep a hand of cards, just draw one random card at a time from a deck.

There was one app that kind of sort of did that, but the interface was pretty janky and it didn't seem like it worked that well, plus the logo was ugly as hell.

  • I’ve not really liked Harris since before 2020, but I’ll gladly vote for her if it means keeping Trump away from the Whitehouse for at least another 4 years. I didn’t think she had a chance in hell, but the trend line so far seems good for her.
