  • I'm a veteran. I grew up Gen-X during a time of high jingoism, with a lot of military folks in my family. It was a time and a setting where "American Exceptionalism" was uncritically accepted. If you had told me thirty years ago that one day I'd be rooting for a foreign nation standing up to the US, and saying things like, "Nothing off the table" regarding their own defiance, I'd have laughed in your face at what a fucking credulous fool you must have felt me to be.

    And yet, here we are.

  • The inaugural lunch, a tradition since 1897, typically includes speeches and toasts for the new administration.

Anyone have a sense of how rare it is for living ex presidents to dodge it? Feels pretty rare but I don't know.

Former Secretary of State and first lady Hillary Clinton also received an invitation to the inaugural luncheon but will not attend, according to a third source familiar with the matter.

I kinda feel like she missed an opportunity there.

  • No I’m saying Dems moved to the right and aren’t representing the people who historically have voted for them because they’re chasing the corporate donors and right wingers

Well on this specific detail we agree entirely!

  • Personally I don’t care if a CEO voted a different way to me, or even if a whole board did. This should not have any bearing on Proton’s product or what makes it better than others.

I won't have a friend who supports Trump, because to do so is to support a regressive, bigoted, jackbooted view of the world and how things should be done. I don't speak to my Trump supporting family members except when family situations force us to.

WHY ON EARTH would I trust my privacy to a company whose entire board supports that view, much less their CEO?

  • It really does. It's a banger anyway just based on how it sounds, and ON TOP OF THAT I want to shout every word from the rooftops. I damn near can't stop playing it.

Thanks for saying something, I feel a little spammy when I link it sometimes.

  • Since finding this 17 year old song linked somewhere on the fediverse awhile back I continue to be amazed how it just gets right to the root of nearly every problem we have. Start to finish, if you are angry at the current state of things (and not a maga), pretty good chance this song nails it for you.

    Welcome to the United Snakes

Land of the thief, home of the slave

The grand imperial guard where the dollar is sacred and power is God

(and it turned me into a bit of a Brother Ali fan)

  • Not the guy you replied to, but am the guy below him.

I mean, it’s the first prototype iteration of it, I’m sure there’ll be aesthetic improvements. ...

That's all reasonable and good, post title got me because I was expecting something more refined, but that's mostly my own interpretive fault. Came in expecting a consumer-ready, probably made in china, cool gadget, not a still-under-refinement accessibility device. As an accessibility device it makes total sense...

  • I just can't care anymore.

It's actually proven now, it doesn't matter.

No matter how many stories are run about the awful things he does and the good things he doesn't do, the people who voted for him will love him just the same.

No matter what he does, no matter how awful, nothing the media prints matters, and our institutions will do nothing to stop him.

We now just have to hope that he and his supporters don't decide we are done with elections in four years. We exist at their whim.

Edit: And might I add - the "opposition party" just ran an election centered around courting voters from Trump's party instead of their own, and shows no signs of learning from it. (again) We are well and truly fucked.
