  • Yeah agree this is annoying. I don't use hide very often, even if that was stored client side as a list of hidden posts I wouldn't mind.

  • I mean I can't afford to fund a study to prove my point sure so it's anecdotal and speculation, but I really do think if you give a new user who is unfamiliar with any kind of app a choice of all apps available, they would get on immediately better with sync. It's a smoother experience, less likely to run into bugs or errors, and it has WAY better error handling if you do etc.

  • The DNC choosing the candidate is absolutely part of the overall system. If that's how it works, that's how it works.

Which, is ridiculous. Maybe it makes sense this term but the fact he ran last time also makes no sense to me.

A country of 300 million people and the senile are in charge, like dude there are far better people for that job, just retire already.

Is that ageist? Yes and I stand by it. People over 70 and certainly those over 80 are in mental decline. This is just the reality. Why have a leader in mental decline? Absolutely wild to me it really is.

  • I mean, I agree. If I were from the US I would also be voting for Biden. But it's a really sad state of affairs there isn't a better option. The system is ridiculous.

  • Yeah I mean looking at the stats of new users, that watering down has already happened to the point where any extremeist shit is statistically insignificant by now. 99%+ of people here are just looking for a replacement reddit and that's all, rather than some censorship haven where they can chat their extreme views.

  • I agree somewhat, I think Lemmy has a way to go though because there are some real big headlines that seem to be missing from Lemmy on certain communities, and often a lot of posts with 0 comments or very few. I know it's early days but until Lemmy is a reliable source of news for my various hobbies I'll still be using Reddit alongside. At least on Reddit for all it's flaws, if there is something big happening in a certain scene, it'll be there. It's a one stop shop for all my information.

  • It starts pretty gentle and has plenty of tooltips.

Ultimately as well like if you're in combat it's turn based, if you don't mind tabbing out to look things up every now and then I don't think you will run into too many problems.

Probably wouldn't hurt to watch a 5-10 minute D&D gameplay overview on youtube before though just so you know what to expect.

  • Yeah and I think that's a fair take. I think most people are probably in a similar boat. I'm not willing to commit much money to Lemmy because it's such a new and untested platform so we will see.

For me so far I've yet to see a single advert on Sync anyway so I'm not exactly sure where they are supposed to be in the first place.

  • Intuitive means it makes sense instinctively. Touchscreens with pinch to zoom are a good example of intuitive UI design. Children can pick up an iPad and learn to use it quickly with no instruction. That's intuitive design and of course it exists.

Is your custom script heavy system more efficient for your workflow? I'm sure, but picking it up out of the box it's going to be horrible for a new user, they will be slow on it, it'll be unenjoyable and annoying. That's my point really, every Lemmy app I tried was unenjoyable and annoying. Sync on the other hand I have never used before, but out of the box? It works, I'm happy browsing with zero issues or errors or struggles within minutes. That's intuitive design.

  • Maybe one that isn't older than average life expectancy already let alone after another term. Just an idea.

  • Fascists hate it when people call them fascists I guess.

  • Really loving Sync. I would be happy if I had to use it forever, but I will swap to Boost if that ever comes out because I'm just more familiar with it.

  • What is unclear? If someone makes an app that improves the user experience and they charge for it, then that's exactly how?

Lemmy is still FOSS, doesn't mean everything that interacts with it has to be.

  • The userbase is also like 100x smaller yet it takes the same amount of upkeep as a developer. Of course he is going to charge more and that is fair enough imo.

Ultimately if you don't like it, don't pay it.

  • That's ok though, because that's how Reddit started too. They didn't add subreddits from the start. So as long as it is providing an /all experience then I don't see why it shouldn't grow from there.

  • It doesn't? For me it's showing 366 reviews with 5.0 rating. Which is rather impressive.

  • That's not true. Intuitive UI design is absolutely a thing, and something people spend a lot of time, effort and money researching and implementing...

  • I never said Linux isn't capable of being the smoothest and most intuitive experience. Just that its not
