  • The methodology here is kinda bs IMO.

They're adding up the emissions of the descendants and dividing that by a parents life expectancy.

However, if a society achieves net 0, then surely the emissions of every person there in are 0, so it's disingenuous to count them at today's rates.

Its an attempt to illustrate the environmental cost of over-population, but it needs to be considered within the context of that methodology.

  • Yeah but, a few or even a bunch of other countries "doing deals" won't really change the calculus for us. It would really take most countries really grovelling to change the dynamic.

Let's not forget, the status quo pre-Trump was the best everyone could achieve for everyone involved.

Everyone hates capitalism and that's fine, there are many worthy criticisms but one benefit is it's ability to find the most profitable balance (for those with the capital). Arbitrary rules (tariffs) are always going to be a net loss.

What I mean is, there's not much incentive for anyone to make a deal because the situation will always be worse for them than it was pre-Trump.

  • At this point the Trump admin is just trying to find the best way to back down without looking weak. They don't really have a plan to do so, they're just hoping some other shit storm takes center stage.

In the case of Australia, our government decided that it's not worth trying to secure a deal for a number of reasons:

    • the whole world is in the same situation, and our tariffs are less than others, so others can do the heavy lifting
    • we're not really adversely effected. We don't sell heaps of things to the US and they need to keep buying the stuff that we do sell.
    • you can't really make a deal with someone who will discard the deal as soon as it becomes beneficial to do so.
    • whatever concessions we might offer are better used in other negotiations.
    • China is presently wooing us and we're more desirable since we've curtailed our long standing romance with the US.

The rubric is going to be similar for other countries.

If nobody bends over for Trump he will end up fucking himself.

  • I'm in my mid 40's.

It's not particularly uncommon for people in regional Australia to own their own house with no mortgage by my age.

It's pretty tough to find a family home that costs less than 10x average wage.

So, as a kind of line in the sand I'd say maybe a third of 45 year olds living in regional Australia could "survive" for 10 years with no income.

  • Are the protestors with signs saying they support palestinian action intending to state that they support the group or that they support action generally?

Either way they've manufactured this issue to protest anti-terrorism laws right?

Not sure if would die on this hill.

  • The consensus throughout this post is that its the brand of TP.

OP had a problem about cleaning, asked a question, received an answer, and know knows the solution which will enable them to clean their toilet.

You're here trying to shame someone for asking a question about cleaning.

  • The bum gun does take some practice.

You pretty much shuffle forward a little, position the BG behind the disaffected area, at an obtuse angle to your sphincter, ease on, I mean really ease on the gas until you can confirm that all splash is going down into the bowl, finally you can really pucker up and hit it.

The thing is... you still need some TP to dry off after.

  • I don't really know anything about the situation you cited.

For any community hosted by a corporation like reddit, the answer has to be pretty much: no discussion of self harm in the first person will be tolerated.

For communities hosted in the fediverse it's more complex. If I were an admin, I wouldn't allow a community to discuss self harm in the first person on my instance for a variety of reasons but most of them boil down to: Mods just don't have the skills, experience, and resources to discern between what is an appropriate or inappropriate discussion or comment.

While a safe place for this type of discussion could potentially be therapeutic in some way, the potential for harm is just too high.

  • In fairness Australia has a low population density, and is not so mountainous, and we have very little snow et cetera.

That said I guess we do have hazards like kangaroos, and a larger road network to maintain (per capita).

Also depending on. When these stats are from they might pre-date the influx of shitty over-sized little-mans American cars. Thats sure to increase the rates of fatalities.

  • I'm not a psychologist but I suspect there's something amiss here.

Like a lot of these people if he steps back from his loyalty to Trump, he's kind of admitting that he's partially responsible for what's happened.

Clinging to this shaky narrative of how this is actually a good thing allows him to offload the guilt.

I think this might be "delusional" in the clinical sense.

Over time the belief becomes more entrenched. Something like muscle memory but a thought pattern. It will then become the basis for even nuttier thoughts.

It's sad for him, it's sadder for her, it's even sadder for their kids who might me next. It's just shit all the way down.
