I hate this framing, that you have to be a "Gaza Account" or "Pro-palestinian" to say anything in support of Palestinians.
I'm not a rabid nutty "Genocide Joe" type, but any human being can acknowledge that what is going on is unacceptable.
I will say though, I suspect that a completely impartial LLM (although I understand that's not possible) moderating comments would tend to censor comments in support of palestine because... these comments tend to be more "robustly phrased" because the authors are getting frustrated at being ignored. Literally calling out war crimes and governments just label them anti-semites.
I never really expected "help" but when we were pregnant there were people coming over every day telling us how much they were going to help. My wife has a huge social group, it was kinda overwhelming.
Since they were born, there's been 1 person who has just been amazing. She's here for a few hours several times a week and just plays with the kids. She's been really consistent.
No one else really knows how to help I think. Or maybe they think everyone else is helping. Or maybe just doing their own thing (which is fine ofc).
You might be thinking about debt from a personal finance angle - it's costly, and borrowing money to buy a car isn't ideal because you end up paying a lot more to own the car. In this context we're taught that borrowing should be avoided, and if we really have to borrow we should pay it off as quickly as possible.
In business it doesn't really work that way. Often there's no expectation that you will repay the money you borrow within any specific period of time. Banks are in the business of lending you money after all.
Suppose you have $1m. Maybe you borrow $4m and buy a $5m farm. Things go well and in a few years your profit (after paying interest on that loan) is another $1m which you still have in the bank. You could pay down your debt, but then your profits would be more or less the same. Or... you could double your profits by borrowing more and buying another farm.
Of course it's not that simple and there's lots of good reasons to pay down debt but I'm just trying to illustrate that paying it off is not always the objective.
You guys infect everything with misplaced social justice, constantly finding to ruin everything on the basis of your apparent prejudice.
Absolutely agreed on this one. I like Lemmy because there's no ads and at least mods and admins intentions are honorable. However, amongst the users there's certainly some hostile, nutty, tribal types around. There's a variety of topics about which any comments but breathless support for the majority opinion will get you brigaded and downvoted to hell.
I'm not quite ready to agree that we're the same as a conservative echo-chamber. We don't do nutty conspiracies like white genocide in south africa for example. We don't do double standards on the same scale like accepting fancy planes from terrorists.
Kangaroos do exactly this to dogs fairly regularly.
It's not necessarily an attempt to drown an attacker.
Roos often retreat into water as a defence. Even on land their defence is pretty much holding with their arms and kicking / disembowelling with their huge clawed feet. In the water that translates to holding something under the water.
Big male kangaroos are no joke. Just like males of any herd animal, they will do whatever they can to harm you of they're threatened.
It's pretty obvious you're just there as a prop. So what if you hurt his feelings by declining. Sucking up by throwing yourself under the bus won't avoid tariffs or invasion or whatever else he decides to do.
Australia has the largest maritime search and rescue area and our GDP is tiny compared to most other countries. Shit gets really expensive mounting missions to the middle of the Indian ocean like for the mf370 flight and stuff.
I think the basic premise with search and rescue is that the expense is mostly disregarded if there's any likelihood that someone is still alive.
I suspect that these guys knew that, and didn't disclose that they'd heard this bang such that resources continued to be provided for the search. Who knows what I would've done. As an external party it's clearly "wrong" but I'll leave others to judge them for it.
So you've built a platform with an ideal use case that you're absolutely opposed to but have no mechanism to control or even detect.
