Socialism is a direct consequence of Christianity. It’s the ultimate material incarnation of it.
Because of Christianity, we had the Renaissance, because of the Renaissance, we had capitalism. Because of capitalism we have socialism.
And many religions are extremely progressive and egalitarian. Many Hindu, Buddhist, Christian, Jewish and even Muslim sects are. Not to mention Sikhs and Jains etc.
The issue is mostly the hierarchical, patriarchal and authoritarian sects won out and dominated the rest, extinguishing most that were real threats to their domination.
In my mind, this is all religion by the way. Buddhism or capitalism. Trans-humanism or nihilism. It’s all religion. We just have a very limited and antagonistic view of religions nowadays.
To the Classical Greeks “religion” was just trying to understand the world and how to live in it for example. That’s how most of us saw religion for a long time. Until the Catholic Church basically.
Now the Catholic Church is evil as fuck… mostly. As an institution.
If our only argument is that treating us better will make them more money, we’re fucked. That can’t be our only way out.
That will just make us more and more subservient and dehumanised in their eyes.
I think we’re reaching a breaking point. The owning class is more and more removed from the rest of us.
We either do something really drastic or we really will have a future with two human species. One godlike ruling over the other miserable and barely human anymore.
Recognising people other than you exist is the ultimate cowards move forreal forreal
Even if you do bump into them they still act like no other person exists besides them, y’know?
Lol good luck with Latin America. It’s pretty split between China and the US Empire/“the west”.
With the recent small wave of “left leaning” politicians winning in many places, many started to turn to China again.
And all in all China is a more attractive partner, because they usually pursue more equal deals compared to the IMF/“west”. Also they don’t call the global south a “jungle” while saying Europe is a garden lmao
But it doesn’t matter. In some years the US backed political parties will win again (after magically arresting another opponent, or killing them, couping them etc.) and turn to the EU and US again.
Not being aware of others and how your actions and being affect them.
Very simple example: fuckers who walk towards you on a sidewalk and don’t even blink (edit: I meant think but this is funny nonsense lol) about moving an inch to the side to avoid hitting you. Like looking straight past you not budging even a bit…
Ah yes, China, the biggest investor in Green energy. They should follow the US’ lead instead I guess?
What? I don’t dream of labour lmao
I would like to be able to do whatever I want whenever I want, and never have to sell my time, focus and body to be able to do so. Or to even just survive…
Well you’ll see most users on beehaw or lemmy.world get pretty triggered if you even suggest considering the Holodomor wasn’t a genocide. In fact, most “regular” people in the imperial core would get pretty triggered. Or for saying Che Guevara was a very cool person. Or for saying Mao wasn’t as evil as Hitler.
So you see, most places on the internet, it being an American creation, are very hostile to leftist perspectives that challenge the mainstream narratives.
Just questioning this narrative makes people seethe.
That’s brainwashing my friend. That is the effects of 3 generations of heavy heavy propaganda and ideological warfare.
And saying MOST people in the imperial core are not lib brained or brainwashed with propaganda is pretty hilarious.
I’m from the imperial periphery, even there most people are also brainwashed and lib brained. I mean the US won the ideological war! It’s the end of history. Ofc most people not in the few areas not dominated by empire will be brainwashed and lib brained.
And I’m not better than anyone. Propaganda is strong. I don’t know what led me to believe what I believe and question the mainstream narratives the way I did. I don’t think I’m special, only specific things happened to me, which had the effects they had because of insurmountable circumstances in my life. Like that’s how all people are right?
I only can hope more people will also develop more class consciousness, more critical thinking skills, and stop regurgitating propaganda. From all sides.
That would even be a cool custom icon…
I suggest Mercury. It’s the Roman version of Hermes, the messenger god, who “connected” all gods and their realms. It’s also a planet that goes VERY fast.
So two cool things.
Would just like to point out all responses here are from people who clearly despise and dislike lemmygrad. So the answers won’t be honest and unbiased.
You really should ask them. But be ready for any response and don’t be too lib brained when arguing, that will trigger them for sure.
Edit: maybe to clarify, I’m not a ML or “tankie”, so I disagree on a lot with the more extreme people on Lemmygrad. But the perspective they offer (an extremely critical and antagonistic anti-US and anti-imperialist view, based - somewhat - on Marxism) is refreshing online where the discourse is dominated by Americans who are for their most part brainwashed from birth to be neoliberals and just regurgitate Empire propaganda.
I say that as someone from an exploited country that is part of the Empire. I’m lucky my country had pretty critical and leftist teachers for the most part, but we still suffered from propaganda so most people are as neoliberal (or fascist same shit) as most Americans… just less than the US I guess.
But all in all, if you’re American, maybe start thinking more critically about what you “know to be true”. 90% of that is pure Empire propaganda.
As MLs are in some ways Marxists I guess, they at least try to base their delusions on actual evidence and facts. Unlike the typical neoliberal that constructs their delusions from propaganda and dreams.
The “left” in the US is really actually center-right. And the “right” is far-right. So yes, both the “left” and “right” in the US are basically the same. Neoliberalism is just fascism with a smart suit and empty platitudes after all.
But saying the left and right are the same when talking about political ideology (and not the political landscape of the USA) is extremely wrong.
The right wants to conserve existing power structures or revert to previous ones. The left wants to dismantle power structures and bring about egalitarianism.
That is the dichotomy. To the right hierarchy, to the left egalitarianism.
The USA has been the subject of the most powerful and long lasting propaganda machine and psyops in history.
Putin is the direct result of US meddling in the USSR. He is the heir to Yeltsin, the CIAs guy in the USSR that forcefully brought it down agains the will of the USSR state apparatus and the people.
Putin was even super cosy to many western political figures, like the Clintons. He was seen as the good guy, privatising everything and allowing western companies to exploit Russian resources.
Russia even tried joining NATO multiple times, with good support from many western politicians.
That changed somewhere during the mid to late 2000s.
Now Russia and Putin are evil and want to destroy the US.
Dare I say this is all fucking theatrics? Not that Putin is still secretly friends with all his old western buddies. But he and Russia were just used as pawns at first, to help bring down the USSR and it’s remnants, and then as a boogeymen by the “west”. Like he was played hard. Not that he has much to complaint about, as he is a fucking billionaire.
And also a lesson. Never trust the US… Like Saddam thinking he was buddies with GWB and sending him letters after 9/11 saying “hey man we got this we’re gonna find the terrorists together!” then getting no response and getting invaded lmao
The managerial class are just privileged work dogs. They aren’t anywhere closer to the true owner class than you and me.
They do defend the current power structures, as they benefit them more than the other workers they manage.
But also do cops. And politicians.
They are wrong, as dismantling the current system would also benefit them. It would benefit every single person alive. Even the true owner class.
They are alienated from humanity, which alienates them from they own humanity. We are alienated from ourselves and our communities.
Capitalism is a mindless beast that wants to commodify and digitise reality as a whole. Even create new realities to expand. It doesn’t care about people. Workers or owners.
A new system based on humanity, on life, would benefit every single living being on Earth. Capitalism destroys life. It doesn’t care about “class”.
Well find some ppl irl that are well versed in theory and have interest in praxis as well. Go to meetings of groups etc. talk to people. Then after some time of absorbing that and coming up with solutions, present them to the group.
Basically if you can admit you don’t have a solid basis for your solutions (theory wise) it means you would gain a lot from listening more. You’d be surprised by how good your own ideas can get after some years of listening to people and their ideas.
Doesn’t mean you can’t tinker and come up with ideas in the meantime. Just have the self-consciousness to recognise they probably are still not it y’know.
It would benefit you a lot to read theory then. That should be the framework, not vague ideas of leftism.
We already spent hundreds of years on theory, work your practice based on that, not on nothing.
The technology used to achieve socialism is irrelevant. The lack of technology was never the issue.
We know what we must do. End private property. That’s it.
How we organize the economy in specifics is not important. Not in such details as you go through.
The real system that will be born from the principles of communism and ashes of capitalism will not be exactly what anyone envisions.
I feel Marx understood this, which is why he hesitated to much to prescribe.
This framing of being the “rich” versus the plebs is not really accurate.
It’s the wealth owners versus the workers. People who own for a living and people who work for a living. That’s it.
In that lens, the real enemy is the top 0.1% of society. And the swathes of workers that are alienated enough to defend their masters.
Christians give Jesus such a bad rep. He was pretty based tbh
