  • The CIA plant is more of a feeling tbh, given his background and current doings. Probably uncalled for. But people who are capable of doing what he did usually don’t reform… It’s hard to go from seeing human beings as tools for your enrichment to actual human beings.

  • I’m old because I don’t support human traffickers? Dude literally ran an operation to bring underprivileged workers to the US from poor countries to be exploited by US companies. All while doing the whole “keep your passport safe” bullshit. Literal human trafficking.

  • Authoritarianism doesn’t really mean much. And according to the US (through the CIA) itself, Stalin-era USSR was more democratic than appeared in western media.

But in any case, even if that was the case, it wasn’t “authoritarian” after Stalin. Like y’know, most countries after WW2 (not just Italy and Germany btw. Or people forget Churchill and FDR, and the “war economies”? The internment camps, jailing of “political dissidents” etc. etc.).

  • I love Dragon Age: Origins. One of the best “modern” RPGs for sure. Great replayability. Great characters. Great “rpgness”.

I also love Dragon Age 2. It’s not a great game… but I actually like the story more. I like how more “focused” it feels narrative-wise. The characters are also great. The “rpgness” is less good… and development issues makes for a lot of reused assets.

I kinda like Dragon Age: Inquisition. I’ve been replaying it recently. The story is decent. The characters are also good. Maybe even better tbh. I like the main plot points and the ideas etc. But the game mechanics kinda suck… I hate the pointless missions that take time like mobile games. The way the story progresses, with meta-points blocking things also sucks. But it’s ok…

All in all, I would recommend playing them all. But kinda like watching all the Godfather movies. One is great, another is pretty good, and one kinda sucks but it’s ok. But if you just watch the one that’s great, you kinda miss the whole thing.

  • I always wonder… can a truly open and free new internet be built? What would be the options in doing something like this? Maybe running on existing hardware (fibre, towers etc.) to a certain extent…

  • Most people don’t even think that’s an option though.

The end of history, with the fall of USSR and capitalism winning the propaganda wars, means most people don’t even see a different future.

Why would you fight a future that looks the same?

People need to wake up and have hope for a different, better future. That’s the only way they’ll more against this.

But for that 100+ years of propaganda have to be overcome…

  • I think the longer response to this is more accurate. It’s more “because capitalism” than anything else.

And capitalism over the course of the 20th century made very successful attempts of alienating completely the working class and destroying all class consciousness or material awareness.

So people keep thinking that the problems is we as individuals are doing capitalism wrong. Not capitalism.

  • I know the answer to pretty much all of our “why the hell don’t we solve this already?” questions is: capitalism.

But I mean, as Lrrr would say “why does the working class, as the biggest of the classes, doesn’t just eat the other one?”.

  • You know what would solve this? We all collectively agree this fucking tech is too important to be in the hands of a few billionaires, start an actual public free open source fully funded and supported version of it, and use it to fairly compensate every human being on Earth according to what they contribute, in general?

Why the fuck are we still allowing a handful of people to control things like this??
