  • There's a reason real cabinet members do things the way they do - those governance structures were designed to allow them to wield executive power but maintain checks and balances - secretaries have to be senate confirmed, and there are actual ways in which they issue orders. Musk is operating outside of all of that, and wielding Trump's personal power. Most Americans just don't care.

  • I guarantee you he has signed no papers. His name won't be in anything. In a court of law you'll have trouble proving he actually ordered anything at all. He is welding all this power completely outside of literally any accountability and Trump , Congress, and Trump's supporters are all fine with that.

  • Even if this plan succeeds, it's not like the countries you just tariffed are just going to allow American exports into their markets. It will shrink the whole economy AND cause inflation at the same time. Economics fear this state for a reason.

  • the US president reconfirming his commitment to a comprehensive tariff regime he argues will be “the greatest thing we’ve ever done as a country”.

I will never understand how Americans developed a taste for his constant hyperbolic bullshit.

Really? Tariffs? Rehashing pre-WW1 economics theories is the greatest thing America has ever done? Greater than abolishing slavery? Greater than the civil rights act? Greater than the moon landings? Greater than the invention of the transistor?

Trump is at a point where nobody bats an eye to this. Trying to hold him accountable for literally anything he says is futile, and half the country things that quality is a good thing and they enable it.

  • I'm guessing the cheaper ones don't have sine-wave inverters (they use a dressed up square wave which can be produced by purely digital electronics) so quality of the output waveform is bad. The power supply of the laptop (or PC) ends up having to work harder to cut out the extraneous bits of the waveform (that is it's job) but all that extra crap is just turned into heat. Laptop PSUs are small , so have less heat dissipation and likely aren't built for this. The ideal use case for these cheap inverters are purely resistive loads (like heaters) but even some less sophisticated electronics would probably be fine. Computer however, are generally designed for clean power.

If it's a sine-wave inverters and the generator is working properly then idk why it would matter.

  • Being able to disengage from politics and even to consider that disengagement a virtue all the while living a prosperous and mostly safe life is a privilege that Americans have enjoyed. But the result of them steadfastly refusing to even think about who they want at the wheel has finally led to an utter lunatic driving. Theyre still sleepwalking, hoping they don't need to engage. The shortest path out of this is acute economic pain.

  • Lol how do you think the aftermath of Pearl Harbour would have gone if someone like Trump was in power instead of FDR? He is the commander in chief. Nothing will happen.

It could potentially stop Americans from sleepwalking into the decline of their country, perhaps. Maybe even generate the political will to get rid of Trump. But none of that is even close to happening. The easy road off this path hasn't been available since last November. The path out of this mess now necessary leads through suffering.

  • This is why I wouldn't put it past them to try to hide the real sales numbers. Wouldn't surprise me if they're down 90+ percent and the company is effectively dead already. The board of directors are Elon's creatures and their personal wealth will depend on keeping the facade (and stock price) up so they aren't about to cry foul.

  • They don't hold that power. If they step out of line Trump and Elon will berate them on Twitter and set their followers after them. If they still don't fold they'll "mention" their family members in the tweets. They will play ball. This is them pretending to have free will, not them actually having any .

  • The damage being done this time around isn't fixable in a single term even with full congressional support.

It's easier to tear something down than to build something up.

True, but more precisely it's an order of magnitude harder to build than it is to destroy. Should there be a democratic administration after this they will find it impossible to put all these pieces back together in 4 years, and will get blamed for it like they always do, and lose again.

The right has put themselves into a position where destruction and failure are a future political asset for them.
