  • Also, everyone should try hot tub champagne at least once, or it's low rent cousin the shower beer. Something about a cold bubbly beverage in a hot steamy environment enhances both pleasure.

Sort of related but I've always wanted to rent a chalet at a ski resort with an outdoor hot tub so I can be outside in the freezing cold, while sitting in a hot tub, whole sipping a cold beer.

It's like giving a middle finger to thermodynamics itself.

  • All that's going to happen is that the US will continue spending the same or more of the military, while others will also build up theirs and the relative strength of the US will diminish. You will definitely not be saving those billions.

  • Why is Denmark even offering anything at all

As others have pointed out, the US play here is likely to be stopping payments for the current US military based in Greenland but not leaving, testing its limits (operating outside of the designated areas), and generally just begging for a response. At this point the Danish (and the EU generally) will have to choose - if they do nothing then it'll encourage more of this BS in Greenland and elsewhere. If they respond with any force it'll be what Trump wants. He'll use it as pretense for...whatever he wants to do.

This behaviour will make it far less likely that all of the US international partners will renew military base leases or sign new ones, and long term it will diminish American military power globally, but nobody in MAGA let alone Trump are really thinking beyond the immediate anyways.

So the answer your question, the Danes are trying to avoid all of that BS.

  • Trump is purposefully threatening Canada to give his canadian conservative buddy Poilievre something to "fight" against, to make him look good

This theory is predicated on 1) Trump remembering who PP is, 2) caring enough about who is running Canada to have it drive policy.

I don't think either of these things are true.

  • I can see her getting on the supreme Court soon if Thomas or Alito are in the mood to retire. It's always useful to set the precedent that being blatantly biased towards Trump will pay off.

Comparing the Warren court to this is straight up comical.

  • To some extent, political parties are naturally occuring . The group dynamics of a legislative body will naturally result in groups forming around specific issues and even philosophies. But there is definitely a strong argument to be made that we've made them far too official, and far too entrenched.
