  • You should look at what prisoners get to eat in France. Here in Spain prisoners wear their own clothes, only guards wear uniforms.

I believe the idea of prison should be that you are punished by you're freedom of movement being taken away. Not by being forced to eat inedible food or food that goes against your moral code.

  • Yes from everything I hear American prisons are all around horrible (by first world standards). This doesn't seem surprising.

You're there to be punished by your freedom of movement being taken away. Not by being forced to eat inedible food.

  • Stupid. I hate these "America dumb tehehe" memes.

They seem to be mostly loved by left of center Americans that enjoy stereotyping their fellow countrymen by saying "Merica" a lot. 🙄

  • I second price to performance ratio. If I had more money to burn I probably would go all in on some of these Linux-targeted laptops.

I'd also add a lot of them seem overpowered for my needs. I do like me a big screen but I don't need a powerful GPU to go with it. I have a desktop rig for that. I can always just ssh into it if I need to do GPU heavy calculations.

  • Yes agreed. I know a few of these types of people in real life. They are by all accounts religious zealots, albeit secular ones.

The whole Marxist idea of thr progression of history is just profoundly stupid and wrong even if Marx was right about some things.

I think the endpoint of a good welfare state in a non corrupt free market is far far better than whatever totalitarian BS they are for.

  • I wish this were the case. But while they can't really control the software you run on your devices (yet) they control the infrastructure.

What's needed is a cultural sea change towards privacy and personal liberty and a dismantling of most of the security state. And I don't see that happening in our lifetimes. The attitude is very much "If it stops one single child being abused we will take everyone's right to privacy away!"
