  • We have a financial oversight body that he can go to if he wants to make a complaint. They have the power to force the bank to reopen his account.

Maybe he’s trying to drum up support before he does go to them.

He is getting some support because there were two questions to the PM today both in support of him.

  • Well, after about a year they came out of a meeting at Chequers with a bold plan….. that was almost like being in the EU and got shot down by parliament immediately.

You could argue that coming up with that plan is progress. It was just in the wrong direction.

  • I hate the “will of the people” bollocks. They keep saying that about stopping the boats but I really don’t think that their solution of sending them to Rwanda is really the “will of the people”.

  • I think that you’re giving him too much credit to be honest.

People have been well practised at ignoring Farage for a long time and I don’t think that he was part of the more successful leave campaign.

  • Yeah. That’s the issue isn’t it. There was one version of remain but dozens of versions of leave but people only got to choose between two options.

Then when the government realised that there were so many different opinions of what leave meant they spent more than a year with no progress.

  • It’s not the same as supporting pulling out of Afghanistan because Taliban is no threat to the US.

Russia is a global threat with its disinformation, blackmail and bribery campaigns that interfere with US and global politics. That makes it much more of a threat to the US than the Taliban.

(Still not treason though as the threat is not direct)

Edit: someone down thread says that selling votes to foreign governments is treason in the US. Sounds reasonable but I don’t know.

  • If you have an idea of what you want before the sale starts and know how much the standard price is you can still be lucky and get a good deal. You just have to be careful not to get sucked in to a non deal.

For example, I was looking out for an Apple Watch. There is a good sale on them but they only have a limited set of body and strap combinations. I don’t want any of the straps on offer so it negates almost all of the discount as I’d be paying £50 for a strap that I wouldn’t use.

  • I could see that it would cause a problem if half the content came from one instance and then that instance de-federated.

People might move to that instance to join the communities that they were previously following which could reduce the content on other instances as they would probably only use one main account.

Lots of coulds, mights and maybes there though.

  • Distributing the app outside of a store does have security implications though from the app developer’s perspective.

They have to implement a key system and a way of checking it. You can’t just allow people to download the app if you want to charge for it as they’ll be able to give it to friends for free.

  • I would love this too but it’s a huge task and the developer is just one guy. I’m sure that he’s busy enough with Sync for Lemmy for the foreseeable future.

I use Memmy and wefwef at the moment and both are good. Currently, I prefer Memmy but I’m writing this using wefwef because Memmy isn’t working for me right now.
