  • I think that the vast majority of people read and comment but don’t post so I’d imagine that it isn’t that essential.

You couldn’t post to Reddit with the free version of Apollo.

  • The problem is how apps are bought on mobile now.

With PC applications, you’d buy a specific version and you would maybe get updates for a year. Then the developer would release an update and you would decide whether it was worth buying the update for the new enhancements. If it wasn’t then you’d stick with the old version until the next new version and make the choice again. This way the developer gets paid regularly by new and existing users if they produce a good app.

On mobile, you buy an app and expect to get updates for the life of the app. The developer is expected to keep producing updates whether the app is complete or not otherwise their app is labelled as dead. They only get paid by new users.

That second model is simply not sustainable from the developer’s point of view for any reasonably sized app so they need to think of ways to make it work. There are only two options which are ads and subscriptions and people don’t like either.

Of course, PC apps are also moving to subscriptions to remove the option that you used to have to not pay them for a year or two if they’re not providing good enough updates.

  • I also infuriate me.

When I’m doing any type of DIY and finish using a tool for the moment it goes on the floor or table closest to me and I can never find the bloody thing when I next need it.

If I apply some discipline and designate an area for tools then things do go much more smoothly.

  • Not being from the US I didn’t know that. That takes something from being completely unreasonable to be understandable.

I can’t believe some fake rich guy on the internet lied to us!

Still, if they’re not idiots the winner doesn’t have to work again so they’re still good.

  • These are all talking about max capacity too.

The 172 is more likely to be full and the pilot has a good chance of being part of the group instead of just a pilot.

The 787 is likely to be at least 90% full and the crew are a much smaller proportion of the load.

If there are just two people missing from max capacity on the Learjet then that’s making things even more inefficient than the others. And it’s very likely that they will be at least that much under capacity.

  • You don’t know if they hash your current password either. Storing the last X passwords is not any reason to infer that they are plain text.

Chances are very good that they’ll hash previous passwords if they hash the current one.

  • It’s a group effort so if nobody in your country uses it then it’s going to be a lot less helpful to you.

I don’t know how it gets started in an area because presumably everyone else you know would get the same experience as you when they sign in so how does it encourage people to start building the knowledge base up?

I know that it works in the UK. My wife has used it and found a lot of useful info but had to add her own info too.
