  • Red Bull won the steward appeal this race. I don't think Max could have avoided shooting past Oscar when this happened, and normally that shouldn't have happened, but I think in this case the wet conditions and poor visibility were a mitigating factor.

Oscar had the right to control the restart and had to do it with very little notice, if overshooting or avoiding action needs to be avoided then it should be up to the drivers behind to maintain a safe gap. Personally I think they should have just called it a racing incident and penalized no one.

  • I had an opportunity to watch with the F1TV commentary this time (the broadcasting rights here are for a Sky-based company), and I have to say it was refreshing for it not to be a complete Norris-fest, while still acknowledging it's a special race for him. DC's reaction to Max's lap was fantastic.

  • Good article, the standout for me was the summary:

In the past year, Sulayem has sacked the FIA's head of compliance Paolo Basarri, the head of the audit committee Bertrand Badre and committee member Tom Purves, the FIA's chief executive officer Natalie Robyn, F1 race director Niels Wittich, senior F1 steward Tim Mayer and deputy Formula 2 race director Janette Tan.

  • Piastri lost the win at the first corner, I think even if Max had overall better pace it wouldn't have been enough to overtake under normal circumstances.

From there, in hindsight, the fastest strategy would have been to sit behind Max and push through the overheating Mediums. But Piastri and team had to try to go for the lead with an undercut because they're racers, nothing can be said against that.

With two mistakes overall, I think third place is the smallest penalty he could have gotten away with, it could have been much worse, and it was good to see the progress through the midfield.

Norris had to clear fewer cars to make his progress, but he did it well and had race pace meeting or exceeding Piastri's. Good to see them racing cleanly after the safety car.

  • For safety reasons, a tiny bit too fast in the pitlane was punished heavily.

Yes, that was to prevent people toying with the rules, and no matter what the speed limit is it should be heavily enforced.

But I agree we'll probably see more incidents and injuries given the close calls we've had so far. I'm all for increasing the limit as long as there are better protections around the people in the pit lane.

  • Torvalds wrote git for the Linux kernel, and then GitHub popped up because most other projects couldn't handle the decentralization. Interestingly to OP's frustration, they were using a proprietary VCS before that, and people were just as frustrated about that: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Git#History
