  • I shared as much information in my comment as I wanted to

  • Also wherever you go, there you are.

  • Yeah I made the move at the end of 2022, though it wasn't because I was trying to get away from the US or anything dramatic like that. I miss the pacific northwest quite a lot. It just so happened that my partner is from the EU and wanted us to be here close to her friends and family. I figured I was still relatively young so why not give it a shot.

It's been alright. Definitely a case of trading some pros for cons and vise versa. Moving to Europe hasn't been some transformative experience. It was a bigger life change for me moving from the US Southeast to the Northwest about 10 years ago than moving from the US Northwest to the EU.

  • I hope he does and loses even more advertisers. Just keep digging that hole, dickhead.

  • I mean it was 2020. I wonder what other significant things might have happened around then.

  • The video we're commenting on has the description text

"To really own your content, I think you need to host it yourself. The fediverse makes it possible."

And hosting your own content is just not a great option for most. That's all I'm saying.

  • Very much agree. I think it would work too. And the crazy thing is it would be a huge advantage for any country that reached true renewable energy independence.

  • Between stirring up shit in Gaza, bribing Republicans to obstruct funding, and now the shit down in Venezuela... you gotta hand it to Russia. Those dickheads really know how to distract and obstruct.

  • Metric weights for things like meat is basically always expressed in grams here in the EU. Using fractions is pretty pointless.

  • The commercials should be illegal to begin with. My partner is from the EU and when we were back in the US she was horrified by the amount of pharma marketing everywhere.

  • Yeah he wasn't my first choice but I was fine voting for him and his administration has definitely beat expectations. Pretty nice what having capable people in your administration can do for your presidency. Not just scandal after scandal and departure after departure like the previous shitshow.

  • Hopefully this triggers some me-too behavior in the west. I am fucking sick of seeing the EU and North America drag their feet on this stuff.

  • Yeah I hadn't had their food in a while and we ended up going to one in Lisbon earlier this year. I was really surprised at how small the servings had gotten for what they're charging. I don't really understand why anybody would go there at this point. There's a lot of decent food out there for less money.

  • I think the expectations of consumers for a dine in experience is just a lot higher these days than McDonalds is interested or equipped to compete with and they're also in the process of pivoting towards a post-automation future.

This to me sounds like a company that is realigning their strategy to fit the market segment they think they have the best chance of capitalizing on, which is apparently faceless late stage capitalism burgers.

  • Also, does everyone have to have a shitty time because you did?

Literally putting words in my mouth.

I'm in my late 30s. Regardless that's a bit of a leap on your part to suggest that sharing my experience is invalidating others. It might be somewhat invalidating the narrative the article is putting forward however, but that's probably warranted.

Point is that this has been a problem for a long time. Is it worse now? Sure, rents are even more insane than when I was growing up and pay still sucks. But needing room mates was a thing for me and the majority of my friends growing up.

This isn't a new problem like the article seems to suggest. Also historically there's a greater precedent for people living in shared spaces than not, if we're being fair.

  • I mean.. I couldn’t afford my own apartment until I was in my late 20s and all the places I lived in until my 30s were shitholes.

  • Fun read and a pretty crazy story. Hard to fathom what it's really like to go through that.

  • Almost definitely being egged on by Russia to further distract the international community (and particularly the US) away from Ukraine.
