  • It was of no use whatsoever to programming or image generation or writing a few years ago. This thing has developed very quickly and will continue to. Give it 5 years and I think things will look very differently.

  • Literally every artist copies, it's how we all learn. The difference is that every artist out there does not have an enterprise-class-data-center-powerd-super-human ability to absorb ALL THE ART and then be able to spit out anything instantly. It still takes time and hard work and dedication. And through the years of hard work people put into learning how their heroes do X, Y, and Z, they develop a style of their own.

It's how artists cut their teeth and work their way into the profession. What you're welcoming in is a situation where nobody can find any success whatsoever until they are absolutely original and of course that is an impossible moving target when every original ideal and design and image can just be instantly siphoned back up into the AI model.

Nobody could survive that way. Nobody can break into the artistic industry that way. Except for the wealthy. All the low level work people get earlier in their careers that helps keep them afloat while they learn is gone now. You have to be independently wealthy to become a high level artist capable of creating truly original work. Because there's no other way to subsidize the time and dedication that takes when all the work for people honing their craft has been hoovered up by machines.

  • I just think most of us have learned not to get our hopes up much for anything going well in US politics and especially wrt this guy. From where I'm sitting, being optimistic about something like a split conservative vote is just asking for major disappointment.

  • Assuming he makes it through the primary on top (and he probably will), I just don't think any of his opponents have the balls to run 3rd party.

  • People with particularly weak immune systems or people on immunosuppressant drugs are advised not to get the MMR vaccine. There's also some other edge case reasons.

  • I mostly disagree (especially on the long term), but hope you're right

  • At the same time the LLM will be used to replace (at least some of ) the people who created those works in the first place.

This right here is the core of the moral issue when it comes down to it, as far as I'm concerned. These text and image models are already killing jobs and applying downward pressure on salaries. I've seen it happen multiple times now, not just anecdotally from some rando on an internet comment section.

These people losing jobs and getting pay cuts are who created the content these models are siphoning up. People are not going to like how this pans out.

  • Well put. I hope this reconfigures cities to be more people oriented and forces better zoning.

  • Not sure when/if that goes into effect but if so that wouldn’t have any weight on the situation in the article right now.

  • Should be ineligible to own after that AND get a big fucking fine and/or jail time.

  • It's still free and they've offered multiple courses of it since it came out and they've been pretty liberal with it. When I was living there I got the 1st and 2nd dose plus 2 courses of boosters all for free.

I would think the majority of deaths are from some combination of poor general health in the population which is also aging, antivax/antimask/conservative bullshit, and workers rights sucking wrt sick time/etc.

  • Remember folks, your preparation/travel time and budget for commuting to and eating at work is a free subsidy to both your employer and business real estate companies that is coming out of your life/pocket.

  • Yeah I see a lot of parallels for sure, which is concerning because the 30s and 40s were pretty fucked up.

  • There does appear to be some law on the books stipulating the rules around a quorum and such a law is considered valid unless struck down by said court, I suppose.

    https://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/28/1

The Supreme Court of the United States shall consist of a Chief Justice of the United States and eight associate justices, any six of whom shall constitute a quorum.

Same way the court technically is not limited in headcout by the constitution, either. In that case, it's set by congress.

  • Yeah agreed I would like to see back to the robber baron era and particularly around the run up to the crash in 29 and the aftermath of that. It seems like every time there's a big crash you see a huge movement of capital siphoned up into the upper % in the aftermath.

  • By record share they mean that there has not been a time prior to now in which they've owned a percentage as high as they currently do.

The graph in the article makes that pretty easy to understand.

  • It should not be possible for the owner of a company to be impossible to suss out by the fucking government. Like how is that a thing?
