  • Tell me more about how democrats are not like republicans. How they're not owned by the billionaires. How they didn't deport people. How they implemented medical care for all. How they codified Roe.

This is not "both sides" but quite the opposite - there's a good and progressive side (top of the stick) and a depraved and evil side (bottom of the stick). While the parties differ in their demeanor (e.g. civility, rule of law), their goals are quite similar, which is why both are at the same position on the political spectrum.

  • Are you by chance from the US? Because other countries have sensible zoning laws and public transit, making cars for families not a necessity but a luxury. Where I live, nobody needs a car. Shopping is done by cargo bike or hand cart, family trips are taken by train or metro.

If you live in a stupid country tho people might depend on cars.

  • What do you think of tianmen square?

Nice big urban square, lined with beautiful historical buildings.

What do you think of the Uyghurs?

You don't meet them too often, but the ones I met were nice people.

    Did the URSS create famines?

Famines in the USSR were caused by a multitude of factors - drought and (civil) war being the most prominent. The war was brought to the USSR by outside forces - the whites where financed by the UK and the US, WWII was brought to the USSR by Germany. So famine in the USSR was created by western forces more than anything.

After 1947 there were no known famines. Since famines were a regular occurrence before we can conclude that the Soviets effectively ended famines in their territory by then.

  • There's only one side that's tribalistic and that's the right. If you break down politics enough, there's only two ways really - for the vulnerable or for those in power. Each side has a multitude of different approaches, but people who chose the path to the right are ultimately all fighting against the weak, the powerless, the discriminated. If you don't call that out, you're complicit.

  • If material analysis wIdEns ThE cAnYoN then maybe it's necessary - distancing logical discourse from lying scheming fascists that is. If you omit the similarities between right wingers you might as well join them.

  • Dumbest sentiment I read in a while. People, even kids, are pretty much aware of what's happening (remember Fridays for Future?), but the rich have coopted the power apparatus and they are not letting anyone get in their way of destroying the planet to become a little richer.

  • Thanks for your effort post.

However, disconnecting from reality is not a good strategy imo. Too many libs care more about brunch than about climate change which is partly why we're so deep in shit.

You might be right about affordability of fringe high tech products and fashion, but at least four generations before us had almost guaranteed housing. Now, buying a house is impossible and renting is expensive as fuck. My financial situation is fine (luckily) but seeing people around me struggle does not make me feel great tbh.

The advice that helped me way more than any of the calendar mottos you had to offer was 'get organized' and 'improve your behavior'. I joined a party and local mutual aid orgs, stopped eating meat, sold my car, and stopped flying. Now I'm at peace because I know, even if everything goes to shit, it's not my fault and I did everything I could. Put me mentally in a very good place.
