An electrical safety check happened a few months ago. I remember they pointed out the switchboard, but it looks like nothing happened of it. I will 100% follow this up with the landlord.
Water got into it. It kept popping and had smoke pop out of it each time (one time fire). It had melted a bunch of plastic and despite being dry it would keep smoking, so that's why we got an electrician. It's no longer smoking so I guess it wasn't completely dry last I checked. I did also clean the socket myself as it had a bunch of grease(?) and weird gunk inside it, so maybe that helped?
Is it safe as it is right now?
Hahaha, probably not. It's a power outlet next to the sink and it has huge gaps where it meets the tile wall. Don't know how this is the first time I got water in it, but it'll probably happen again at some point.
Power's back. It's working now, but the electrician didn't need to do anything... Was too expensive to replace power socket so it's just sitting there all covered in soot. Hopefully will get a quote for the switchboard and haggle to landlord to deal with it. Honestly, too tired to give a shit.
Thanks everyone for reading me rant yesterday. I got some helpful responses and it really meant a lot to me as I was quite distressed then. This is a nice little community, I love it here :)
Also, I didn't quite capture the peak indoor temperature as I only powered on my indoor weather station with a battery just an hour ago, but even then it measured 35°C. A new indoor record, much higher than the last one (~33.5). which is absolutely crazy.
Tonight's going to be delightful. There's no wind to blow cool air and my place is chilling at 34.3 with no power. Electrical work has been rescheduled to tomorrow morning so my food has/will spoil. I have to do laundry and get scripts done tonight. I've blown the budget on a cold drinks only woolies order for tomorrow, hopefully I'll have power by then 😂😭
Power outlet next to the sink has shorted and keeps popping and smoking when the mains is turned on. The real estate agent's emergency electrical line won't fix it till Thursday and all other electricians called won't fix it despite us willing to pay it because we don't own the property. There's no fire extinguisher or ground fault protection so I really can't risk playing with the outlet.
I actually love how I can't get an electrician because I am a renter this is ridiculous. I'm all out of options besides either, calling more electricians until one agrees to do it, or start a fire because I want the fan on ;-;
Anyone have an suggestions?
Edit: After much electrician shopping, someone was found to do it. If something goes wrong we've been assured that we'll have to answer for it
Oh wow. It's still 30 inside. I don't think my flat has ever started off warming up this hot before. It's 30% humidity despite the evap cooler being on all night.
My peace lilly is upset and needs to be watered. Pretty sure I watered them yesterday though.
Absolutely no rain here...
Starting to lose hope in it
