  • Hmm. The two streams I was interested on where the velocity and elevation metric and the live camera feed from lander. They simply didn't show them after approx 300mtrs ofs ground and went to the speech. Was such a let off given how hyped I was. Just walked away.

  • Might as well call linux the most polluting OS. It props up old inefficient systems with high TPW and takes longer to complete tasks. Whereas microsoft and apple makes sure their users are on the latest efficient hw. Maybe a bit offset by the ewaste but who cares, Apple and MS are out savingy the earth.

  • Turn off fast boot in windows.

Might need to turn off secure boot as some distros might have issues while others might not.

Be ready to ask for help, esp on laptop with nvidia. Rather than get frustrated and give up, ask with your model, distro and the issue being faced.

  • What di you mean. There was no real time control. Landing instructions were provided well ahead of time and onboard systems too control through out from 30kms to touch down including the precise spot which was done from 800meters off.

I dont know how many would classify that as AI but it was an autonomous system landing.

  • CGI was fine but it was annoying they didn't consistently broadcast the numbers and just switching to various individual views. At the time of touchdown they showed a barren CGI and modi on a 40% background. Could have atleast showed the three metrics at a corner.

  • You shouldbea able to turn off from settings. More options are present in the config. You can find github guides doing more hardening for sedurity and privacy.

Not sure about librewolf specifically but most of these firefox forks do these initial setups for you and maybeave a couple of addons preinstalled. You would still be using firefox. Beyond crash reports and some reduced usage metrics turning them off should hinder firefox much.

  • Many have issues with stability. Especially with firefox which comes installed via snap on ubuntu. Similarly compared to deb snaps versions occasionally have weird bugs. I personaaly had an issue with opening files properly using snap but worked fine on deb.

Also its unnecessarily forced. Deb works great and apt is widely used as primary package manager. No need to maintain the system with another one in the mix.

Its also repoted not to work well on otknr platforms like fedora or arch. Other package formats like AppImage, flatpak might be better in that regard though I havent used them.

  • As a supposed technical person, I am ashamed of myself of how long it took me to download the ISO for my VM. Its like 7clicks from homepage into increasingly more information rich site to get their full iso. Originally I browsed through a bunch of pages before realising where it was.

TBF their netinstall iso is available in just two clicks but I was too stuborn to get the full iso.

  • My recent purchase had both win 11 home and office pre installed. Most consumer laptop with decent spec dont give OS as option in my country.

We are collectively paying for it to get that discounted price. Retail win 11 pro sells for 10% the price of a mid range office laptop without gpu.

  • I too prefer to have just iGPU which the recent ones are more than sufficient for most of my needs. But wanting to try some ML and that most configs with 16+ RAM offerings are mostly gaming laptops with nvidia.

Although I've had some display issues without nvidia too. Previous laptop had issues connecting external monitor. Only some distros had that issue so possibly a misconfiguration or incorrect library was used.

  • Pop doesnt have snap installed in my recent install.

I don't like gnome in particular but I am too lazy to setup a proper WM on my work laptop for fear of braeking and losing work.

Have tried fedora gnome with their pop-shell it worked fine otker than a few differences. Some odd behaviors like move next workspace would move it to first or last.

Nvidia is a pita. It prevents my machine from waking from sleep and I can't even close the lid because I cant turn off sleep on lid close.
