  • I think a point you aren't emphasizing enough is that Belgorod is less than 80km from Kharkov and the PAC-2 has a range of >160km... So, Belgorod was already under Ukraine's AD umbrella. It doesn't help that the IL-76 isn't stealthy, has no active defence EW capability, and is literally a giant flying boat. It also doesn't help that Belgorod is connected along the South Eastern Railway to Voronezh, which is a major logistics hub in the region. There is no reason an IL-76 should be flying over Belgorod without clearing with Ukrainian AD. Hell, Belgorod is so close to Kharkov that you wouldn't even need a Patriot system: even the IRIS-T system (range 40km+) would be enough given how static the frontline has been there. Belgorod sits in a cauldron.

Everyone is so convinced Russia must be lying that they're not considering what would logically make sense.

  • Are you pretending like Russian doctrine today isn't heavily derived from Soviet Cold War doctrine?

Anyway, let's look at the lend-lease claim:

The Soviets produced around 100k tanks in WW2. The Americans supplied 13k.

The Soviets produced 157k aircraft in WW2. The Americans supplied 14k.

The American lend-lease program produced two key elements that the Soviets lacked: advanced trucks, and aviation-grade petrol. Both were problems that could have been engineered around (particularly since lend-lease peaked after the Red Army had turned the tides on Barbarossa and was gaining ground across the entire front), but American support made that unnecessary (and for which we are all thankful, because the alternative would have cost even more lives). These were two massive contributions that rapidly accelerated Bagration, but they don't fundamentally change the fact that the Soviets were beating the shit out of the Germans after the failed push on Moscow and the attritional war in Stalingrad.

  • That's the thing, I'm not convinced France is lying. This was Lecornu's statement:

These people have no connection with the French armed forces, do not wear French uniform and are not associated with the French military institutions.

France does not consider their intelligence services as a military institution. France can speak the truth, but Russia can also be correct.

  • Here, I think something is being lost in translation: the mercenaries were French (as in, their nationality was French), but that does not mean that they are operating under orders from the French government to serve in the Ukrainian army.

Russia is claiming the former, France is denying the latter, and we have a diplomatic mess for no good reason.

  • Again, you're attempting to conflate different aspects of Hitler's ideology. Hitler had different opinions of different Untermensch... Because to him, although they were all subhuman, some were less human than others. The fact that your grandmother was not Jewish does not change the fact that Hitler's solution to the Slavic problem was resolved before his solution to the Jewish problem.

  • You're being disingenuous in your claim. The argument is that Zionists and Hitler cooperated in establishing a Jewish state (which is true: Hitler started out wanting to "just" ethnically cleanse Jews, not exterminate them). Conflating Zionists with Jews is wrong, but that's where the claim that "Jews were responsible for the Holocaust" comes from. Similarly, the claim that "Slavs were the true victims of the Holocaust" comes from numbers: more Slavs were murdered in the Holocaust than Jews. It's pretty silly to play "who's the greater victim" in a genocide, but...

  • As a population, Romani were hit harder. In terms of numbers, the Slavs (and communists in particular) were hit harder. Hitler considered both groups (Slavs and Romani) to be Untermensch. We haven't forgotten them; it was caused by a policy of propaganda that also caused this change of opinion in France:

Romani today are still considered an underclass. There is still a blatant disregard for Slavic lives in the West. The change in public opinion for the Jewish people was never about being a victim of Axis imperialism in the Second World War.

  • It's always the same map. It's a reflection of the spread of British (pre-WW2) and later American (post-WW2) ideas around the world, which explains the relative geographic outliers of Japan and South Korea as well as Australia.
