  • Metric is based in such a way that the idea is ease of unit conversion.

In base 4 multiplying by 4 would change the unit to kilo or whatever. That would be metric but base 4.

We use base 10, you can argue about the validity of using base 10 but it bears no effect on the metric system. And yes arguements about bases exist.

Base 12 Base 6 Base 60 are all common suggestions. But base 10 is what we are probably are going to be stuck with for a very long time.

  • What the fuck did I just read

  • That's the point of monopoly, You start off with the same assets as everyone else, and though no fault of your own you slowly lose it as one person takes advantage of the opportunities that you didn't get, like landing on the best properties etc. Eventually the point of monopoly is that 5 of says 6 players end up going round the board, never quite dying, but never being able to progress, at all. That loops is whole point of the game. The hopelessness.

Now irl you don't start of equal. You actually start of even more disadvantaged then your opponent, so monopoly as a game makes an even more damaging point, that even in optimal conditions, capitialism is stupid.

  • The ancient memes are great though. Like be honest, you laughed at the stupid 2001 meme

  • The Lemmy DM is imo actually quite important. If I want to get in touch with someone about a post, nothing more. It is an easy option, and serves a purpose. It isn't imo meant to be used for anything else.

  • We have hit the critical mass; and that is a cause for celebration. A month ago when I joined, I thought that people would come, post a bit. See the limited content and leave. And I will admit it was painful to use Lemmy back then since a solid 90 percent of posts where about the site or were rips from Reddit. Fingers crossed for the future of Lemmy

  • Here's a comment I saw here a while ago, but when exoduses occur, the site becomes a shithole of far right ideas. Since the far right tends to stay put for whatever reason. I think they used Reddit predcessor as an example but I'm not totally sure

  • This was thrown around a couple of weeks before the Reddit migration really kicked off, it appears to be excessively difficult to code. And it also doesn't really fit with the system that Lemmy runs. It's a great idea, but Ive been lead to believe that it is too difficult to create Although people do feel that account transfer would be a nice feature

  • Yeah I don't know what's going on with boost

  • Reason and critical thinking is all the more important in this day and age. It's just no longer taught in schools. Some simple key skills like noticing fallacies or analogous reasoning, and you will find that your view on life is far more grounded and harder to shift

  • Because of this comment, Im going to comment on every post I see, hopefully I start some conversations... That always entertained me with Reddit reading 2 people talking about some small pointless thing
