  • I'm sticking with the 4a, buying second hand refurbished for like 180 quid on Amazon.

I don't need a new phone, that has a slightly faster screen and slightly more memory. I'm quite happy as I am.

  • Right well that makes sense. And is also a very good point. I don't really see why you couldn't do that. So I guess it is arbitrary. Although you then have the question of which case occurs more commonly, which is imo actually quite interesting, but also entirely pointless, since good luck showing one case to be more than the other. It's like that door and wheel question.

  • I don't see it mate. So you're going to have to tell me, sorry.

The point I'm trying to make is that using Pemdas/Bedmas is the most effiecent way of removing brackets - I actually don't 100% know that but I doubt it creates hundreds of brackets - if thats slightly clearer.

  • I've said it before on Lemmy and I'll say it again, but mindustry. It's the game that has held my attention for years and years, it never quite gets old.

  • Yeah I haven no idea what I was saying when I said that, I've edited my comment a bit.

On that note though using your example I think I can illistarte the point I was trying to make earlier.

1 + (2*3) by always doing multiplication first we can remove those brackets.

    (1 + 2) * 3 can be rewritten as (1 * 3 )+ (2 * 3) so using the first rule again makes a sense. That is a crappy explaination but I think you get my gist.

  • Yeah looking at my comment with fresh eyes, I really failed to say anything true.

But I'm still going to say its not arbitary, since its super fucking convinent and it removes a lot of brackets.

  • Pemdas isn't as arbitrary as people in this thread think it is.

I love maths, and I'm going to butcher any attempt to explain why pemdas isnt totally random. But you can look it up if you wanna know more I guess

Besides no one ever uses that notation - by the time you learn about quadratics, you leave multiplication symbols out of the equation entirely and much of the notation changes shape, with division exclusively being expressed as negative powers or fractions.

At that point you aren't going to make mistakes, since each hyperlevel uses a different style of notation. Pemdas is used to teach 4 year olds, and it's fucking dumb. What happens with a log, or sine function. Don't even get me started on integrals and derivatives.

Pemdas is shit, but not because it's abirtary. In fact it's shit because it's a shithole acyromn

  • Yeah but the way you derive the order of operations is way above the average maths student.

I say that, but its not really that complicated to derive, since you think in terms of the expansion of the naturals to the reals

    My brain is fucking dumb

  • If they had recognised what they had done to piss people off, this post would've done quite alot. If they had said that they fucked up when making the API changes and wanted mods to come help rebuild the API, that alone would've done an impressive amount to lower peoples nerves. They wouldn't have even needed to have acted on the advise. Instead they take zero blame, which imo only pisses more people off.

  • I was hoping for a sine rule post. sin(a)/A = sin(b)/B = sin(c)/C

  • So will these "kite boats" have engines as well, with kites being used to reduce the time for it cross the alantic and thus carbon emmissions. Or is the aim that the kite boats won't need engines.

  • Matrix I feel is one of the better os for newbies You just send them towards element.io. Or at least that's what I did with my friend, when I wanted them to switch

  • I also think that there were linch pins with in the threads app, people followed shadow accounts for there friends etc. Now I wouldn't be surprised if alot of those friends then didn't get the app, making said shadow follow pointless

  • How to get a successful IPO

    1. Piss off userbase
    2. Tell everyone you aren't profitable
    3. ???
    4. Profit
  • Glad to see an EDM fan on here

But I'm going to do a shitty job recommending music, since you listed the artists who do like dnb electro... Which is an area that I'm almost totally clueless. But to take a shot in the dark, UNMD. It's frenchcore techno so it's a bit different. Maybe look at psy techno since it has the same kind of beat whilst keeping some the melodic parts of electro.

Sorry that was awful. But alot of the artists I listen to have really fat melodies which is like the exact opposite of what your looking for. Although I do like some of the artists you listed, so I'm gonna mix those into my playlists. So thanks I guess

Edit: I looked through your post history, defo look into psy techno.

  • Depends, if you just get a second hand one it's way cheaper, but battery life can suck ass, bit of a gamble. If you get refurbished one, the battery is excellent but that costs a little more at 170 quid So it really boils down to if you wanna take the risk

  • I refuse to upgrade past a pixel 4a, because as far as I'm concerned it has everything I need. When my last one broke I just brought another pixel 4a, why? Because they cost like 150 quid second hand on Amazon.

When I have shown the phone to friends and such, I get the same reaction to the price since it looks like a really good phone. And cost significantly less.

No intention of flipping back ever again

  • I love most electronic music with my favourite subgenre being electro. Although dubstep and a trance are also up there rn

  • If you add a little something to the tea, the baby will experience a crazy vision and realize the meaning of life.
