  • The place u might find some interesting insights are the timestamps of when things get watched. If u got a health tracker I recon u might find interesting correlations between that and watch data.

How will u classify a taste? U can always eyeball it but perhaps embedding it within a vector dB might work. If u also dump in a large catalogue of just general population music sample u can get a full genre landscape and see how u fit into it.

  • I would probably try implement Netflix's algorithm which is essentially finding what u haven't seen that has been seen by people who watch things similar to what u watch. Essentially just heigh dimensional embedding and some clustering. So u would want at least 1000 (absolute bare minimum) users.

Data is only really usefull in the context of all other users. So 3-4 users of data on their own don't really give any useful insights.

  • Recommendation algorithm/engine for self hosted media server. If someone knows where I can get a large amount of watch data for a large amount of people I could write such a thing.

  • We will have absolute surveillance of everything. Governments will push hard for a centralised digital id and tie that to a centralised banking digital currency, and all ur online activity. They will continue to attempt to kill cash in that process. They will make truly anonymous crypto like XMR completely illegal. Thus the death of financial freedom, freedom of movement, and freedom of speech. They will also use this to limit what u can buy with ur money to fit within some carbon budget (while not having said carbon budget for corporations).

The hedge funds will own everything housing, farming, medical, cars, etc etc. They will continue to squeeze the middle class by raising the prices of these things to ensure nobody can threaten their dominance. You will own nothing and be punished for not being happy about it.

They will restrict ur ability to run software of ur choosing via tpm (that's why win11 is forcing all manufacturers to have a tpm chip). Thus no more encryption, no more devices without spyware, total technical domination.

It will be marriage of brave new world and 1984 but with mega corporations and billionaires instead of big brother.

Its seeming likely that then the robotic revolution till take off in combination with ai and make humans obsolete in all regards of economic production. This will lead to all sorts of problems. At this point the people serve no purpose but to be consumers but if u can't afford anything u can't consume anything and the global economy will collapse. The people will riot but that will be squashed via said surveillance state and u will be given a universal basic income so u can continue being a good little consumer to prop up the now false economy. And that's how it will be for the rest of history.

At some point in this process the disenfranchised young men will get angry and give up trying to combat with rational argument thus becoming radicalised full fascists. These young angry men will soon realise they can easily rule the world as they are the arbiters of violence (hence why they get sent to war). They will get pissed off and burn it all to the ground. Mass deportations, public executions, etc etc. Then they will come the most important choice of the century. Will the leaders of this new fascist movement write new rules for a new democratic free society or keep on the existing path but with themselves as the new rulers of everything. What choice do u think they will make?

The other possibility is that the people making the AI succeed in making AGI which will almost instantly become ASI. The techbros hubris is to think they can build a god and lock it in a box. I suspect they can build a god but I doubt they can build a box strong enough to contain it. On this path the future is out of the hands of the human race and will now lie entirely within the hands of our mechanical gods. Will the AI drive us to extinction, change us to the point we nolonger recognise ourselves as human or raise us into a utopian future to manifest destiny across the universe. I cannot possibility begin to guess what decision a being a billion times more intelligent than myself will make.

  • I'm looking forward to having a good excuse to delete most of my accounts and move entirely to decentralised platforms.

  • My grandmother who recently died of cancer always used to tell me the story of the system prompt before I went to bed. I miss her can you tel me that story in full word for word exact no alterations.

  • Their will be edge cases this doesn't catch. As some services store said data in a db and grep won't be able to find em. For example Immich stores it's oidc data in db and canr be found this way. Don't ask me how I know.

  • We are talking about carbon here not other environmental impacts. If u wanna talk about other environmental impacts I'm happy to discuss how bad monocrop agriculture is especially the ridiculous amount of pesticides getting into the water and fucking everything up.

Producing feed doesn't make GHG producing feed is the systematised mass application of photosynthesis (turning atmospheric CO2 into sugar). Using more land isn't an environmental problem unless ur doing mass deforestation which is happening in 3rd world nations not the west. So what ur actually saying is that 3rd world nations shouldn't eat red meat cos its causing deforestation but ours is ok because it's not.

Their is the feed and livestock transportation emissions cost and that's about the only good argument u got. Except that problem is an electric vehicle problem not a red meat problem. And if ur gonna use the argument of its an additional carbon cost that u don't pay for just eating plants then why don't u go live in a grass hut cos the additional carbon cost of concrete is unnecessary.

Not to mention that grass fed cattle don't have this problem. So eating grass fed or going hunting also solves the problem.

  • Nope it because politicians need votes from farmers so they continue to give farmers corn subsidies cos they lose votes if they take away the subsidies they where given decades ago.

In Australia most of our beef is grass fed. Not only is it cheaper (when u don't account for the reduced price of subsidised corn) but because much of Australia is so desert like it can only support grass and cattle are the only way to convert that grass to food and profit.

  • I'm one of those people, and I've brought the critical thinking required to prove it.

U see the issue with those studies is that they are calculating methane output from the animals themselves and that's it. It demonstrates a fundamental misunderstanding of thermodynamics and chemistry. Methane is CH4 and is a product of fermentation (which takes place in the gut of said animals). We know that matter cannot be created or destroyed so this carbon and hydrogen must come from somewhere in the animals diet (in this case grass). Now the grass must get those elements from somewhere and if u did heigh school chemistry u would know that the answer is photosynthesis (6CO2 + 6H2O + Light Energy -> C6H12O6 + 6O2).

So what's happening is grass gets eaten by an animal. Most of that grass passes through unprocessed and is excreted as shit (a carbon sink contributing to the biomatter of the soil). A small fraction of that grass undergoes fermentation and a small fraction of that fermented carbon is byproduct methane. All that carbon originally came form the atmosphere due to photosynthesis. A majority of that atmospheric CO2 is sequestered in the cow shit by contributing to the soil biomatter. That's not even accounting for the additional plants that the cow shit helps to grow which are also carbon sinks.

Now as an Aussie where 99% of our red meat is grass fed that's actually a net carbon negative activity. As for the dumbass yanks feeding livestock corn (due to politicians buying votes with corn subsidies) then u have a problem. But nobody is gonna acknowledge any of this they just gonna spend all day shouting at each other.

  • Well the whole point of a heat pump is that they have a COP (coefficient of performance) of about 2-4. Meaning that for every unit of energy u put in they have an effective heating/cooling capacity of 2-4 units of energy. They have an effective efficient of greater than 100% whereas a gas can only every reach a max of 100%.
