  • Unless I'm missing something, the report lacks percentages from any point in the past, so we don't know whether trust was actually lost, or even whether there is a trend in either direction.

I hope we're getting better at raising young people with the critical thinking skills to be skeptical of big tech companies. (And all corporations, for that matter.) I hope our teens are learning to prefer technologies that serve and protect them, instead of turning them into profit sources for billionaires and influence sources for oppressive politicians.

  • I like IRC, too, but I have to admit some of its mechanisms are annoying and not very good. (Nickserv for identity management, for example.)

I don't think IRC is as good as Matrix for decentralisation, either. If an IRC host network goes down or is taken over, it's very disruptive to the communities using it, as we saw with the freenode fiasco.

  • Linux, and libre software in general, is one of the few impactful tools available to maintain (or reclaim) the sovereignty of our communications, data, and access to the online world. Those things lie at the core of practically everything in our lives, from employment to education to laws to basic human necessities. Given how significantly freedom is being eroded lately, I can't think of many things more important in the long run.

  • Ever since playing and liking Tomb Raider (2013), I have noticed it being compared to Uncharted, which made me curious about the latter. However, the clips I've seen made Uncharted's characters seem focused on being macho men, rather than being humans exploring dangerous environments. Is it like that throughout, or did I just randomly find video clips that happened to highlight a single minor aspect of the games?

  • Mainly Organic Maps

Occasionally OsmAnd~, though I mostly avoid it because I found building it from source to be more annoying than it should have been, and didn't care for a marketing campaign they ran a while back.

  • Practically all game publishers do. Sadly, it's the industry standard.

(By the way, you linked Steam's subscriber agreement, which concerns Steam's service and client software, not the games bought on Steam. Maybe you meant to link a Valve game license?)

In any case, it doesn't matter here, because the complaint was about Steam, not Valve.

  • It's not Steam's decision to make. The statement you're referring to is just Steam highlighting a decision made by the game publishers. Even if Steam didn't highlight it, it would still exist, as you would see if you read the games' license terms before paying.

Ubisoft is a game publisher. They actually make the decision that you don't own the games you pay for.

  • I use DAVx⁵ on my android devices, so calendar and contacts are synced to a private CalDAV/CardDAV server. (I self-host Radicale, but you could pay for such a service if you don't want to host your own.)

Pictures should be easy, since they're just files. Swapping microsd cards, copying to/from a computer via USB, file transfer app, KDE Connect... there are lots of options.

By messages, do you mean SMS/text? I suggest checking your old phone's messaging app for an export feature, and trying to import it on the new phone's messaging app. If that features is missing or incompatible between versions, maybe try one of these apps temporarily, just to get the backup/restore done:
