While it's true that we don't understand consciousness, LLMs don't have the hallmarks of consciousness that humans and other animals do.
Modern LLMs are essentially just guessing the next word in a sentence. There's no continuous experience of the world, and there's no self, no agency.
Don't me wrong, it's fascinating tech, and if we do one day create machine consciousness, it might incorporate parts of our current technology. But right now it's pretty safe to say that LLMs aren't conscious, unless you believe in panpsychism / animism.
I honestly don't think this looks very good. The lighting and assets look good on their own, but this remaster completely changes the art direction of the original, and it ends up losing a lot of the atmosphere that the original had.
I hope they make some last minute changes, or we at least get a mod to restore it to the original game's aesthetics.
I think a simple color grade, and tweaking/removing some of the lights could basically fix it, so I'm a bit surprised they took this approach. It looks like they prioritized tech demo over faithful recreation.
Yeah this is what I'm confused about, why would you send your potential catfish victims to the same place where they can talk to each other and then ignore them?
Personally, I like they/them better. It's already been used for persons of unknown gender for a long time, and using it as explicitly non gendered is really seamless.
Wheras neopronouns can feel very attention calling and othering. Then there's the issue that most of them sound gendered anyway, ('zhir' sounds a lot more like 'her' than 'him')
I do agree about the need for more nb representation, though.
I was referring to Linux nerds, piracy anarchists, privacy/foss fanatics, etc. All of which are great, but may scare off new users.
Tankies are definitely a bit of a problem, although they usually stick to their own instances. Luckily I haven't encountered much if any racism on here. Where are you seeing it?
I kinda do agree with out on fractal geometry though, (although you're gonna see a lot of tiny triangle shapes). And also for certain applications, things like catenary curves are ideal.
I don't think 90 degree surfaces are going anywhere though. Having angled walls would be less space efficient, and angled floors would be a safety hazard.
And cubes/rectangles are by far the easiest, most compatible shapes to efficiently design with. Although in your hypothetical future I guess we can just use the biocomputer superintelligence to design everything.
Hexagons are the tesselation of the densest circle packing, but other than that, they aren't really exceptional in any way.
There's a reason we use triangles for structural trusses, and rectangles for everything else. In fact, hexagons mostly just show up as a byproduct of how things are made, which is true for chicken wire as well as honeycomb.
