This is my reasoning too, add to it IMF and World Bank an d be clear where you are at.
We can clearly see people here cheering for NATO and other western military organizations to arest and kill people, but talking agains those organizations is forbidden.
Mentioning anything agains what mass media is serving just gets you massive amount of downvotes, same like on reddit.
If you are preventing discussion and diverse opinions you will make the same echo chamber social network as corporations make.
Population of 100k and miles of cars? That really sounds like me playing City Skylines.
I have different complains about my city (in Europe) but one I think is easiest to solve is public transportation.
Everyone is cheering "we need metro" and we do, but metro takes time. I think we can use existing infrastructure and make it better.
More buses, more trams, free public trasport financed from sold gas, much more yellow lanes for buses, more and better buses and trams. More bike lanes. I think that's the only thing that can help us solve our traffic problem.
I work in sustainable agronomy R&D, yes we most certainly can. Just by changing agricultural practices we can achive a lot. Not all of a sudden, but slowly we van change it in few decades.
We can also go back to small and efficient cars. Looks like electric cars gave us right to pollute more and ignore problems electric cars are bringing and we don't have solutions.
We can also produce and buy locally.
We can add tax and real price to plastic producers, corn producers, meat producers, coal, nuclear. Real and complete price they have on environment and society. Don't use uranium from slave mines in Africa, or lithium from undeveloped countries and say "it's cheap".
Develop and use public transportation.
So we do have a lot of knowelage how to reduce pollution, but we just don't like consequences.
So the right question is if we will do something about it and in that I am not certain. Until now I see no movement in the good side.
I mean... Tor is founded and probably maintained by US intelligence
The core principle of Tor, onion routing, was developed in the mid-1990s by United States Naval Research Laboratory employees, mathematician Paul Syverson, and computer scientists Michael G. Reed and David Goldschlag, to protect American intelligence communications online.
People are against some ideas that are not even conspiracy theories, but just facts.
Same people hate on Snowden and Musk but trust them without questioning when embracing some random product.
Thank you for sharing some opinion that is not part of official media campaign, I hoped (and stil hope) lemmy will be more open-minded, but currently not by much.
No, it is not completly open source, server is not client is, but client is using google services so... not great you can not have it completely clean.
Adding to that that Moxi is not really friendly to comunity requests, as can be seen on various issues on guthub, I wouldn't call it prime example of free software.
And truth is that financial side was never clear enough, it can be just someone being careful and understandably wanting to stay anonymous, buy I couldn't find any lies in linked article. Except title which, of course, can not be proven, but we can allow some clickbite, that's how this internet business works.
Also in smaller countries whatsapp and viber were the way to communicate with friends and family in other countries. Not only messages, but audio and video calls. Audio messages are also quite important.
And groups, that's another vector how Viber spread around, parents got to have groups with other parents from their kid's school class.
I think trchnical solution is not s problem, if we decide what needs to be applied we can do it.
If kid finds grandmother's id - it is simple enough, punish grandma for providing her id, it will teach adult to be responsible. Additionally, not all kids will be able to do it. I doubt they will follow us.
My opinion, eve if it is obvious, parents are responsible Punish them for not protecting their kids.
I expect we'll lose about 90% of the web within five years
Which part? I feel it will be part I don't even want. I might be forced to use that part for work, but that will be nice filter.
I was thinking that "they" ( governments and big corporations) should have their own internet which is clean and ordered and "safe" and leave us on other part. This might be a way to achieve that.
Even the career is not important, whole life is ruined. Just imagine family and friends all ar least asking about it and some leaving you.
While I agree there should be severe and swift punishment for sexual offences, there should be some punishment for false accusations. I know that sometimes is just not prooved and sometimes it is in legally gray area, so not automatic, but if it can be prooven that someone was intentional lying - then there should be consequences.
I lost my old account and now I don't have points on new account and I can not do anything. I can not vote, I can not comment, I can not answer questions. So I just dropped it. I can not even thank (by liking or upvoting) a person whose answer helped me.

We won nothing.
