  • I think our two party system is two sides of the same coin. One is just better at doing the bare minimum to appease the masses. They're both right of center in terms of politics.

I feel like you may have taken my comment the wrong way. I was agreeing with you and adding personal observations of friends and family and their polarization based on the rhetoric spewed by Fox News. There's a reason Democrats don't get primaried by their own party for collaborating with Republicans. The opposite is not the same.

It's really hard to get through to these people after years of hearing, "liberals want to eat your babies," and some such shit. I've tried. The idea that progressives want what they want, but actually govern toward those goals when elected, is what is hard to convey when one side sticks their fingers in their ears and yells, "LA LA LA LA LA, SOCIALIST."

I'm definitely not saying to give up, but moderates are just closeted Republicans that want an "out" whenever the Republican caucus starts shouting fascistic rhetoric. Getting these people out of their echo chambers will take generations if we still have a society by then.

  • "MoNeY cAn'T bUy HaPpInEsS"

It sure as fuck can buy some sense of safety to focus on "wants", like children. The wealthy want the labor force to be born, yet are doing everything they can to suck them dry of every financial well-being they try to get. Then they got the gall to write these wedge pieces blaming a generation for not doing some fucking survival gymnastics to fulfill their gloom and doom future!

  • This is absolutely not true as Steam and other niche streaming sites have proven. When you make it easier to buy what you're selling, rather than doing everything in your power to nickel and dime consumers to pad your stock price, people are fine paying for those services and you don't need ads.

Historically speaking, your statement is false, and there are multiple examples to prove it.

  • I did not put a label on "babies", you did. It doesn't matter what side does what to children, it's wrong. Also, with the amount of misinformation coming out of this conflict, you expect me to believe your "both-side-isms" here with "it's happening to a father in Israel"?

Get all the way fucked, lol.

  • Wat? The? Fuck? I have no idea what kind of mental gymnastics is happening here.

  • But it's a bad thing if a progressive can get republicans to vote D?

Not a bad thing, just nearly impossible. Republican voters have had the last 20-years of Faux "News" equating Democrats to traitors and baby killers. They've tarnished the idea that compromise is required to have a functioning democracy, and their side is always right. Republicans will primary another candidate before they accept or work with Democrats.

  • bombing babies

    Sick babies, at that.

Not that it changes anything. As a recent father, this whole thing rips me apart inside.

  • All of those issues go away if we switch to ranked choice voting. Literally all of them. One change and we're free of this horrible corprotocracy/oligarchy.

Which is why it will never happen, sadly. The wealthy will lose all their influence and power in a single change. They'll "scorched earth" this shit before they let that happen.

  • When HOA authoritarianism doesn't hit as hard anymore.

  • On top of that Faux "News" and hard-line Republicans have made compromise akin to traitorous. As soon as any Republicans joined Democrats in calling for his replacement on the committee, they'd not only have a likely Republican opponent the next campaign cycle, but probably death threats.

Case-in-point, Adam Kinsinger, who only agreed to join the impeachment team knowing he was done in politics afterwards.

  • I learned that as a negotiation tactic. Pick the number you want to get, then ask for more. The counter will likely be around what you wanted!

  • As someone who worked at GameStop long ago, when these pre-order bonuses started becoming cancerous, no, no they can't. The number of people who bitched about them, or how every FIFA game is just the same game with a different roster, yet still bought them and stood outside for midnight releases, was almost an overlapping circle.

Having integrity/principals requires abstaining, and that's not how a lot of people think, unfortunately. They voted with their wallets and what they voted for was shit.

  • I actually removed a lot of ad blockers from all my devices once I found that uBO could do it all. That could be what they are seeing from others as well, perhaps!

  • Right? I've used ad blockers as soon as they popped on the Internet scene. I hate advertisements, commercials and any kind of marketing. I don't watch TV, and when I do or it's on nearby, I get up and walk away during the commercials. When sponsored stuff interrupts a video I'm watching, I skip forward until the video returns. If I have to use a browser with no ad block, I straight up abandon most sites. It's untenable!

In general, I treat life and products/services I want like a business doing a Request For Purchase (RFP). If I want something, I'll look up companies that provide that product or service and rely heavily on the recommendations of friends, family, and community when making a purchase decision. Those who aggressively solicit me will almost never get my money or be considered.

    Fuck capitalism.

  • Dude, just fucking die already. I hope they double their efforts of subpoenas going forward. If a spotlight is cast on a Democrat, well call for their removal as well. Politics should not be a "get rich quick" scheme. You work for us, asshole, and it's high time we reminded you/them of that fact.

  • They know, but war is good for business and reelection efforts.

  • 🎤🎤 Scary flying shark, scary flying shark, Careful you, he's out hunting in the dark 🎤🎤

  • Ya know, I've seen a lot of posts regarding Elon Musk spam in this community, and calls to "ban" them, yet every week we get gloom and doom posts like this when some new subset of the world starts seeing this shit. I'd really like to see a pinned message about the fix, which is...

    1. Install Firefox or a derivative, and add the uBlock Origin extension.

If you visit YouTube and see the pop-up, the page isn't loading the video content, or it just seems to be acting strange, do the following:

    1. Click on the uBlock Origin brown shield in your extensions.
    2. Click the three little gears icon to enter the settings.
    3. Make sure you're in the Filter lists section from the top and click the Purge all caches button below it.
    4. Click the Update now button.
    5. Wait until the filter update completes.
    6. Refresh the tab(s) that YouTube is in.
    7. Press play.

I literally have no other installed add-ons for ad blocking, anymore. Only uBlock Origin. Any time I see the message or YouTube starts acting up, I just repeat those 7 steps above for any YouTube tab that was already open, and viola, the video plays. It has simplified so many issues for me and reduced the number of adblock extensions I need to run.

I definitely plan on donating this holiday season to their team, probably the biggest share of the pie between the FOSS apps I enjoy and appreciate. Should uBlock Origin ever fail, I'll just stop going to YouTube.
