Those are horrible. The captions are down there, and the movie is up there. And sometimes the arm goes limp and you have to prop it up again. And where do you suppose I put my drink? On the floor?

I don't think any glucose readers come with a bluetooth functionality. There's one (or a few) that does NFC. The advantage of having a mobile phone is that it can also transmit the data to the clinical team, and the parents.

If the glucose reader came with bluetooth and a simcard slot (to share data), and a simple LCD screen to provide a simple glucose reading then I'd probably go with that. But there is nothing like that at the moment AFAIK.

Smaller phones do have a place though. I've got a 7-year old son with Type 1 diabetes. We wears a Glucose Monitor that requires a Bluetooth connection to get a reading. He needs to carry a mobile phone for this reason, and because of his size, and the fact that he needs to carry it basically all the time, a smaller phone is best. He does not need a camera, or to browse social media.

This app seems to have been sold since I last installed it.

I don't think you can get widgets on the usual Android lockscreen anymore. What I used to do was make the weather app have a persistent notification, and have that notification showing on the lockscreen.

It's this end of tipping culture?

That's kind of what is happening with Kim DotCom. He's been in New Zealand for years and never set foot in the US, but he is accused of conspiring to distribute pirated material that belongs to American corporations. He supposedly broke US law, while in New Zealand, and has never been to the US.

Light Rail moves more people quicker, and does not get stuck in traffic.

Take out the road crossings, and take out the Light Rail tunnel from North Shore to Albany (instead convert the Northern Buswsy to Light Rail). With an improved PT corridor, you should expect to see less demand for the additional road crossing, and we should be thinking about more climate friendly options.

And the Light Rail plan from CBD to Mangere should be on the surface along Dominion Road. I don't get the obsession with tunnels. They are expensive and more difficult to access.

Not sure if you saw the news, but the BBC are experimenting with their own Mastadon instance. They can probably afford to host video.

I understand that many instances are run by volunteers and hobbyists. But that doesn't mean that a business such as BBC couldn't come and host their own instance.

And I don't think I implied that you wanted to ban video. I just want to see video integrated natively into Lemmy so that instances can turn it on or off. A Youtube link is no good. I don't like being rickrolled.

The Deaf Community uses sign language which can only be captured and distributed as video. Many Deaf people did not have a good education, therefore their English is not at a level to be fluent. Their first language will be Sign Language. My first Language is Sign Language, but I am also fluent in English. I was privileged to be able to have a good education, thanks to my parents who supported me and made good choices for my educational needs.

Now, back to the point about video in posts and comments. I would like to see an opportunity for a Sign Language instance. There may be funding to cover the cost of storage to allow this, but this can only be a reality of video can be implemented natively.

Other instances can choose to turn this feature off? Let there be an option 👍

I'm not sure if I would consult with a doctor about whether a waste to energy plant is a good idea. They should probably stick to what they are trained and qualified for.

The World Cup could be referring to so many things!

We have the FIFA Women's World Cup 2023, Mens Rugby World Cup 2023, Netball World Cup 2023, Mens Cricket World Cup 2023. And there's probably more.

I don't really watch more than 2 hours per day. Sometimes I just watch the 1 episode, and if I've started it earlier enough, then I might be able to sneak in another episode before I get into bed.
