  • In Commodore 64 there is a short circuit in the voltage regulator (9V to 5V) after +20 years that sends more than 5V into the 5V line on the system board. Effectively getting one or more essential chips and the computer becomes a desk ornament and a memory from forgotten times.

I would disconnect the power from the system board, connect power and measure the voltage with a multimeter. Might sound like a lot of work but it can be the difference between a working vintage experience and a dead vintage experience.

I had a look at the pictures and the capacitors look fine. There is a known problem with "swollen capacitors". Old things didn't work like they used to. If they are not cylindrical and do not have a flat top they might need to be replaced.

I'm not saying you have to do all this work, I'm just saying that these two things are known problems in some vintage computers.

  • If I were to choose infrastructure today and only looked at the technology and stability I would choose Z-wave over Zigbee, WIFI and Matter any day.

But... The pricing on Z-wave devices is a showstopper and it will eventually kill it.

  • The problem is that the vast majority of end users prefer apps over websites. They have no clue whatsoever that 99% of all apps are essentially just wrapped websites.

Since Mozilla has been unable to find a viable business model (No, relying on Google handouts is not a viable business model) I fear that there is only one possible future and a free web is not part of it.

  • I really hope I'm wrong but it seems that the only thing that has engaged you on Lemmy regarding the Russian aggression (rape, torture, mass execution of civilians etc) on Ukraine is that Cameron doesn't act the same way Israel/Palestine as he does with Russia/Ukraine?

If that's the case you're what the Russians call "an useful idiot".

  • Old timer here.... Diablo 2 has a story with an atmosphere that sucks you in. In that sense Diablo 3 was a real disappointment.

Now, if you're going for Diablo 2 it's the remastered version you want. The game is like 20 years old and not made for widescreen so it really feels dated on a modern screen. Also, prepare for isometric pixel graphics.

  • The problem is that no one on their right mind is surprised while the ones swallowing all the disinformation because they "do their own research" will not be convinced by this fake news propaganda made by the establishment to hide the truth...

  • All insurgency/resistance movements face the same problem: you don't know who to trust. Trusting the wrong person is your own death sentence. Therefore the majority just sit still doing their best to not rock the boat even though their boat is moving towards the Niagara fall...

  • Along with the termination of perpetual licensing, Broadcom has also decided to discontinue the Free ESXi Hypervisor, marking it as EOGA (End of General Availability).

Wiktionary: Adjective perpetual (not comparable) Lasting forever, or for an indefinitely long time.

    Hello ProxMox here I come!

  • If this is what makes you conclude the F-35 being a better system, you clearly have idea of what you're talking about. (NOT.)

Arms deals of that magnitude are based more on what politicians see as a chance of getting reelected than what the engineers conclude.

Furthermore, just looking at the specifications and conclude that A is better than B is something people without insight would do.

I recommend this Swedish blog post on the subject that was written 10 years ago: Gripen E vs JSF

  • You are both comparing two systems and calling the one that cost 5-7 time less per flight hour mediocre in a discussion where the enemy discussed are recycling hardware from the 50's on the battlefield.

Dudes, Gripen might not be a 5th generation fighter but it clearly outperforms the enemy it was designed to wrestle.

So "mediocre" it's not what I would call Gripen even though I agree that we (Sweden) should spend more on developing a new 5th generation system among other defence systems.
