  • Nice! I have an old PC that was built back in 2012. It has "retired" as a youtube and media machine and has been on every day in the morning for the past 13-ish years. Its running PoPOS mostly because we put a 1070 in it in 2019 to play some games before we got our steam deck.

Linux + old machines is n awesome combo.

  • This is on top of potential tariffs which if enacted will make PC costs skyrocket. I feel like a lot of people are just going to skip the generation like they do with every other windows OS version. They will just keep windows 10 forever kinda like XP did back in the day.

  • If I understand correctly you are responding to my comment about browser specific applications that were publicly available.

In this case it was a public library that would have around 23,000 university students that would be in/out of the place. It was an awesome job. Most people end up using the browser over programs. We had stats over the laptops/desktops that would get checked out. It was about even. Windows vs Linux. We didn't make a huge deal over it.

  • I think once an official phone client pops up working...it will get much more popular.

I moved over earlier in the year. Not because Lemmy was bad, it's awesome. It's just Piefed is more awesome-er. Being able to see and comment on any posts with the same links make it great. + Flair.

  • Most people don't think of operating systems. They think software and hardware is an all in one deal. It's not Linux, it's android. It's not windows, it's a PC. Ect....

We had Linux laptops/desktops for public users a while back and it worked out well. Most people use a browser anyways instead of specific programs.
