  • sick at home with a chest infection instead of presenting at a conference today.

had set-aside some cash to spend while away, so am frittering away some cash with online shopping while on the couch.

Is a synology NAS any good? minimum specifications I need? streaming media, mostly.

  • if you worked for an organisation of ~10k employees, who deals with a lot of sensitive data, how would you convince IT that they really want to install that niche bit of software that you personally use, because it suits your personal workflow, on your work computer?

  • you know how some folk came up with those "memo" water bottles (flat, rectangular in standard paper sizes like a5 etc)?

I want someone to do the same with food containers, so that my meals sit nicely in my satchel, and I don't have to leave my beautiful Italian satchel at home in favour of girthier but far more student-y crumpler.

    that is all.

  • I have managed to wrangle my week such that I have NO meetings today, all deadlines are met/things are on track, and all I need to do is sit down and read a whole stack of papers (academic articles, not student papers). I'm sure this sounds boring AF to many of you, but it sounds like my perfect Friday!

  • I unironically love Xena (yes, am lesbian).

I love that it constantly makes fun of itself. As for Renee O'connor, I read somewhere that what happened was that they had her dressed all demurely in season 1 until production staff realised she was actually ripped. then, as an in joke, as the seasons went by they made her costume smaller and smaller/more and more revealing.

Also, I met Lucy Lawless once (in the context of an arts industry function) and she was lovely.

  • so...if you had a tenage nephew who wanted to learn about the stock market, where would you direct them?

like the true son of a hippy, my nephew has a job and wants to buy shares, but for himself, not through a broker. I'm talking small amounts, to kinda practice/learn, I guess.
