Google now has the market cornered because they aren’t as greedy.

honestly cant tell if this is satire. my university is currently purging google storage as fast as we can because they altered the licening once we were fully invested. and that was before they started screwing around with licensing language around their Ai. the google mdm is an absolute joke. not even my orgs own google team reccomends it and their jobs depend on google being used. i'd use the vmware nightmare formerly known as airwatch over google mdm.

google is exactly this greedy.

you're crazy. musky will be buying up those farms himself through LLCs then leasing them out to his kinda whites. nobody avoids the grift not even the one assuming they're being let in on it.

i mean, this is the real answer yeah. but i'm liking @Nemo@slrpnk.net's answer and will begin enforcing 'honored ancestor' instead of my name.

his current mod practices are not my point. and he's already banned from here, nutomic isnt a problem here for us in this moment. but if he retains control of the ml server/domain in some way. his responses to db0 definitely show him obsfuscating, not being naive or uninformed. when the blowback from his own statements causes him to drop the mask full-time. ml rules could become whatever he decides and the mod team becomes whatever he needs to enforce that. if the ml server governance is designed in a way to protect against that, great! the odds of it going fully hostile are lower.

some people don't like personalizations. this is the first account in at least 10 yrs i picked a username for. normally it's just the string a password generator spit out. this time, i guess i figured after surving 18 months on world before deleting the account and moving. i could put 5 seconds into picking a name, since i'll likely be on lemmy until it dies. at some point in the next year i may add the word 'no' to my bio but thats an excessive amount of personalization for me.

I don't think anything significant would be lost by dumping ml. two years ago sure, the platform was too small but now ml is just annoying. I don't know how the governance of that sever is set up. but if nutomic has control of the domain, its more a question of when will he decide to change ml rules. I trust ada to make the call when federation with ml becomes a problem. guess i'm just chiming in to reaffirm that for when the time comes. don't know how lemmy as a platform grows long term if nutomic retains any level of control over it. but i'll probably just be following you fuckin weirdos onto the next platform so it's not that big a deal. maybe it could be a nostalgic return to internet forums.

came here to suggest journaling as well. and if you've already had a good experiance with it, all the better. during my divorce, the only other person i felt connected with offered to "help fix me" if i'd just give them a pass on all my established boundries. i declined and we parted ways. filled at least two books that year but it gave me a place to talk outside my head. it was enough to get me to each next day. that gave me time to let connections with other people develop on terms i was comfortable with.

debain, with xfce if i need a desktop. mostly because i started on xubuntu. started learning sysadmin stuff when all i could afford was a potato with salvaged computer components shoved in it. xfce considered that excessively over powered. ended up loving the way i set up my xfce env, and probably wont change it much over the next 20yrs because theres no need. so when cononical got extra gross it was easy to just move to debian and carry on with my life.

i deleted my world account back when some of the active posters in 196 started pushing for a move to that instance. i have precious little free time to burn on the internet. on world i was wasting that time with "just asking questions guy" or maintaining a block list of accounts who's say "I support that in concept BUT this real world human actually existing is too far!". it was facebook without ads and brought zero value to my life, so i left lemmy. very relieved to see the 196 community chose to stay here. this instance is the only reason i decided to give lemmy another go.
