  • My company recently started using MS Authenticator for 2FA in our emails. At first I was pleased about the extra security. But the way they implemented it is so fucking bonkers I can’t even handle it.

When you log in, it tells you to check your phone. On your phone you have to enter your password, then wait about 10 seconds, use biometrics, then they show you a number, and then ask you to type that number - on your phone, the same fucking device they showed it to you. And if you miss the number flashing, the text box where you enter the number covers the number so you have to tap “I can’t see the number, hide this box”. Then, if you’re trying to check your email on mobile, you have to force quit Outlook because it won’t load new emails until it launches.

The worst part is that you lose your token two times a day. So you have to log in twice a day on every device you use. It’s such a hindrance to productivity it’s insane.

  • The article clearly states threats of violence to the PSC, the student group who penned the initial letter:

“This has created an atmosphere of fear and self-censorship on campus. The PSC had to “postpone a solidarity vigil acknowledging all civilian victims” following “credible death threats,” according to a PSC statement to the Harvard Crimson, the student newspaper.”

“The far-right Accuracy in Media (AIM) group has swiftly descended onto the scene, driving around Harvard Square with a billboard truck showing the names and photos of students supposedly associated with the PSC statement under the header “Harvard’s Leading Antisemites.” Despite its nominal dedication to “accuracy,” the truck has reportedly included photos of students who are no longer at Harvard, students no longer affiliated with the organizations, and Jewish students, all lumped together as anti-Semites.”

Your comment kind of proves the point of the article. Being critical of the Israeli government does not make you an antisemite or a supporter of terror. Of course I believe a Jewish person has the right to advocate for Israel without being punished in any way. Why on Earth would I feel differently? I’m not really sure what you’re asking about Hamas, but yeah, they are fucked up and their actions were unconscionable.

Acknowledging the fact that Israel has committed war crimes in the Gaza Strip which has led to a state of chaos that has contributed to the radicalization of Hamas does not make you a sympathizer of the terrible acts of terror that took place earlier this week.

My very uneducated take here is that there are no “good guys” in this conflict, only the loss of many innocent lives.

  • Posting something in a public forum and having that be posted elsewhere is not bad for privacy. What’s bad for privacy is social media megacorps installing apps that extract unreasonable amounts of personally identifying data and selling those databases to the highest bidder.

  • It’s surprising just how bad printer/scanner software is. The desired function is so so simple but the software gets in the way so bad.

All I want from my printer/scanner is to press print, and have it not change its IP address so Windows can’t find it. And to have a big scan button that scans and uploads to an FTP server, none of this Windows Scanner nonsense. (FWIW I actually use NAPS2 which is quite good)

  • Consider going to see a clinical psychologist for therapy. I know you’re already swimming in debt but it sounds like you could benefit from this. Even if you had to wait until you return to work, it sounds like you’re going through it.

  • I would recommend using a guide for MM, unless that goes against your ideals or something. I tried playing it over and over for years, no, decades, and it wasn’t until I used a guide that I actually enjoyed it. Maybe that makes it a bad game, but the story is incredible and makes it well worth the struggle IMO. Also, Nerrel’s texture pack is quite good, the only texture pack that I used and liked, aside from HUD packs.

Also, don’t forget about Skyward Sword. It was my least favourite of the series (I found it too cheesy) but lots of people swear by it, and it gives a lot of context to the history of Hyrule. I’d recommend emulating the switch version if you can. The game gets less cheesy as you progress, looking back some of the levels I quite enjoyed, especially Lanyaru.

  • Exactly. I used XBMC and then Kodi for years until I got a smartphone and a laptop and wanted to keep my watched list synced across multiple devices. It was way too complicated with Kodi; it was never designed for that. That’s when I switched over to Plex.

Aside from that use case, though, Kodi is an incredibly powerful and impressive piece of software.
