  • The *arr services are fantastic for helping you organize your content as you download them. They won’t find anything that you wouldn’t be able to find yourself, though. You feed it your indexers via Jackett or Prowlarr for torrents, or NewzNab (or equivalent) for Usenet. What shows up on my Sonarr searches is likely very different than somebody else’s since we likely have different indexers.

If you are looking for content that is hard to find I would recommend getting into Usenet or joining a private tracker.

If you want to get into building a large library and hosting your it on a Plex/Jellyfin/Emby server, I would recommend getting into Sonarr and Radarr, and then learning about the other *arrs.

  • But if the antenna passes the usb port then it doesn’t really matter.

A friend of mine had a $2500 gaming laptop that couldn’t use WiFi when he used an external display. He ended up having to use two separate dongles, one for DisplayPort and another for Ethernet. It worked, but was pretty dumb. In the end, though, I was happy that at least he was using a wired connection.

  • I’ve seen this exact problem on other laptops. Not saying it’s okay, but it’s not exactly an Apple only problem. It’s a “let’s cram everything into this single port and hope it doesn’t interfere with anything” problem.

  • I don’t think you’ll find many providers that offer free trials, although I stand to be corrected. But some will accept crypto so if you don’t want to give your credit card details you could try that.

  • While it’s not for everybody, the jailbreaking scene taught me more about my phone than anything else.

In the other hand, it’s one of the most toxic communities I’ve ever been a part of and the reason I don’t jailbreak anymore. So much drama interfered with the software development and caused so much noise in the subreddit. Shame really!

  • I’m curious about the last rule.

Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice is quite good. I haven’t tried the VR mode but that isn’t really part of the game.

Most driving simulators have a VR mode.

  • For me it was several days before an episode released on streaming services due to a leak. But in general I’ve got every episode of every show I watch downloaded, unpacked, renamed, moved into my library, and ready to watch in Jellyfin within an hour after it’s aired. I’ve never sat down with a timer, but I reckon sometimes the whole process is much less than an hour.

In my case the slowest process is the unpacking, but only because I’ve allotted two of my 10 cores for it. My server does a lot of other things and I don’t need slowdowns every time a new episode airs.

  • Wow slskd has come a long way since I used it last. I tried for what seems like years for it to work but it would always restart and set all settings to default.

Will spin this up again to see how it goes.

  • For years I have been trying to get Home Assistant to work nicely with my garage door opener. I used a MyQ system that would constantly go offline and just recently switched to an ESP based switch.

What makes it Apple related is that I installed HomeKit Bridge which bridges all compatible entities from Home Assistant to HomeKit. The new garage door switch is now reliable enough that I can now say “Siri open the garage door” and immediately it will open.

Only Apple for the first 5% of the automation, but boy after all the headaches I’ve suffered to reliably open my garage door, this one feels so damn good.

If you are wondering why I don’t just use a radio remote, I do. But no matter which remote I try, I cannot get them to work through the steel door, they will only work reliably if I am beside the garage, not in front of it. Also when I’m out for a walk or a bike I don’t usually bring the radio remote. So this automation gets used about 3-4 times per day. Plus it will remind me if the door was open for more than 3 minutes!
