  • Since rubber domes are a completely different technology, there is no direct comparison to them in mechanical switches.

Edit: The closest to a "Name" we have in the community would be "Heavy Tactile". But this might not necessarily be the thing you are actually looking for...

You can check out this selection of force curves: https://github.com/bluepylons/Open-Switch-Curve-Meter/blob/main/Force%20curve%20measurements/README.md

Maybe you find a switch that is interesting to you.

And I have two suggestions for you:

    1. Since it sounds like you have not written on mechanical keys for a long time yet - get used to the ones you have at the moment and try to "forget" the feeling of the rubber domes that is present in your fingers. And experience what mech. keys are generally good at. E.g. that you don't need to bottom out. That would be the FIRST thing to do. Otherwise you might end up spending a lot of money in the search of something that just can't exist.
    2. Order a broader range of switch samples, from different switches & manufacturers. Maybe just 2 switches each at first. Try them out and see what you really like. It is hard to find the right switch just by looking at the theory. You can find a list of vendors here: https://kbd.news/vendors
  • The further the bump is in the middle, the less noticeable it will become.

So just that I understand: Why exactly do you want to have it in the middle? What does it give you?

  • Regarding this Victsing Keyboard: It's hard to find anything about this board, but it looks like this isn't even a mechanical keyboard. More like a cheapish rubber-dome board.

If you wanna have more of a "rubber dome" feel, you wanna have something without pretravel. E.g. Gazzew Bobba U4T

Additionally, silent switches don't bottom out as hard as normal switches, so they feel a little more "rubber dome"in that regard.

  • If you can find them, Kailh Crystal Royal Box switches might be something for you.

Also, something like a "Gazzew Bobba U4T" might be interesting for you. It doesn't have more force, but the tactile bump is really far up, effectively eliminating pre-travel of the stem. So your fingers directly "sit on the bump" in rest position, which might give you a more satisfying tactile feedback. (Note, there is also a silent version of this switch with the U4 variant)

  • Dad Jokes @lemmy.world

After years of research, scientists finally found the smallest grizzly that ever existed.

  • You are right, basically.

However, the backup solution of Signal will basically export the "content & metadata" of the messages into a re-importable format and then bundle everything into an encrypted container. You will get a separate password for that container file that you need to re-import your messages.

As far as I understand it, Signal will then re-encrypt your messages after the import with the key of your new Signal installation.

  • Wouldn't be so sure about the 45 days for Signal. Had to do an "emergency" reinstall of Signal at one of my family members. All messages were lost.

However, Signal has a dedicated backup-function baked in that I've used before. (See under Settings > Chats) It should just do want you want.

  • Wait! Shifter is on peertube? Cool! Love that guy.

  • Brother, really? Have you even seen one before? 🤔

  • I have the Fairphone form iode with their OS on it. Best phone I had so far and the System ist pretty much set up the way I like it out if the box.

  • I mean, the headline of this post already makes me irrationally angry. 😂

    Y u no close brackets!?

  • Switching the launcher will almost do ZERO for your privacy. Just to let you know.

Anyhow, you could check out the "F-Droid" App Store, which is populated with the most privacy respecting open source apps out there. It also has some launchers.

Or you could at least check apps on Exodus for trackers.

    • "n-jinx" wäre "en dschinks"
    • "engine x" wäre "endschin iks"
  • Um das mal phonetisch zu schreiben: Es würd sich ungefähr wie "en dschinks" auf Deutsch anhören.

  • Only if you drink it in considerable amounts. Should be pretty fine for a bath though.

  • Don't eat your bath salts. Don't drink your bathwater.

As a general rule: Just don't.

  • You're in good company. Germans have a similar relationship with their flag.

  • That's a great guess when you try to answer the problem with traditional (Newtonian) physics. However, space and time do not behave in a way we would expect when we go nearly at light speed. So Newtonian laws do not apply in the same sense anymore.

  • Things get really unintuitive when you go near the speed of light. Einstein's "Special Relativity" is describing that. Watch a couple of videos on the topic. It's mindbending but seriously cool.

In short: The speed light is always constant FOR EVERY OBSERVER. That means, if you would hold a flashlight in a very fast moving train, the light would travel as the same speed for you as for a stationary person that is watching your flashlight from outside the train.

But how could that be? Aren't you "adding" the trains speed to your flashlight? So shouldn't the light in your train travel faster in your train? Or maybe slower? No. Light speed is always constant - but what is NOT constant is space and time. It is relative to the observer. Time and space can stretch/dilate to make up for what seems to be a paradox. E.g. your trains would shrink in length the faster you go. But it would look different to you than it does to an outside observer.

As I said, it's mindbending, but there are a couple of cool and simple videos on the internet to get a better grasp on the matter.
