  • I moved from lemmy.ml to unilemmy who specifically don't defederate from anyone. So they treat people as adults who can decide for themselves what they want to see. If you don't like something just block it .. simple.

  • Africa has been getting steadily worse over the last several decades. Countries that used to export food to the rest of the continent, like Zimbabwe, are now impoverished and people there depend on aid to survive. Even the "best" countries are just staying level, but the continent is not succeeding as it should and shows no signs of doing so.

  • Así es .. Medellín se llama la ciudad de la eterna primavera, y cuenta con metrocable que sube a los barrios populares. El metro ha sido un gran éxito para la ciudad, es limpio y eficiente y todos aquí son orgullosos de tenerlo.

He ido a Australia varios veces pero nunca a Nuevo Zelanda.. queiro ir.

  • It's easy to see why Bukele is so popular and I sympathize with Salvadorans who have suffered greatly. But we know from experience that this strategy doesn't work in the long run. You can't lock people away for ever, and the people who are going to jail now, including many who are innocent, will emerge one day as hardened criminals.

The only long term solution is rehabilitation.. but that requires patience and entails a lot more suffering in the meantime. There are no easy answers here.

  • You're not missing much. It's a soulless place, not to mention remarkably racist. Sure it's clean and safe, but there's no vibrancy. I live in South America, in a city that's considered dangerous by world standards, but I walk out my door and there's music and life.. the city buzzes. Some people like living in a sterile bubble I guess but not me.

  • I agree. But automation has made air travel safer by an order of magnitude. The problem with the 737 Max debacle was trying to use automation as a band aid to avoid costly recirtification and pilot training. They didn't inform pilots about the new pitch control system and they didn't train them on how to deal with runaway trim. Oh and relying on a single sensor to detect ACA was also a bad move. So, many mistakes .. for which a lot of people died.

Notwithstanding that, every day hundreds of planes rely on automation to help keep passengers safe.
