  • Because that’s boring and doesn’t make good headlines. Not making exciting headlines means share prices stagnate. Taking your time also means that someone else might beat you to the punch. Neither of those things are good for the company’s bottom line or the CEOs business reputation.

  • However, tribal leaders have served a notice of trespass to the former hotel owner, saying that the hotel's location violates a treaty signed with the Sioux in 1868.

I’d like to know more about that treaty violation.

  • It’s impossible to give a rational answer to an inherently irrational question.

  • This picture cracks me up because I just watched The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent yesterday

  • I agree - sinophobia is hateful and irrational. I just don’t trust the CCP not to force the company to play along with their surveillance plans, ya know?

  • You are putting WAY too much faith in the ability of programmers. Real AI that can do the job of a therapist is decades away, at least - and then there’s the approval process, which will take years all by itself. Don’t underestimate that. AI therapy is uncharted territory, and the approval process will be lengthy, detailed, and incredibly strict.

Lastly, there’s public acceptance. Even if AI turns out to have measurably better outcomes, if people aren’t comfortable with it, statistics won’t matter. People aren’t rational. I don’t care how “good” Alexa is, or how much evidence you show me - I will never accept that a piece of software can understand what it’s like to grow up as a person. I want to talk about my issues with a flawed, fallible human, not a box plugged into the wall.

You ask a valid question, just much earlier than necessary. I’d be surprised if AI was a viable alternative by the time you retire.

  • Politicians and executives missing the point entirely: “fuck canaries; they don’t vote or sue.”

  • If anyone has any actual information, I’d appreciate it. Just based on the fact that it’s a Chinese automaker, though, I wouldn’t expect privacy to be very high on their list of priorities.

  • People who throw the word “tankie” around indiscriminately aren’t using it right. From what I’ve seen, it applies specifically to extreme communist fanboys who are apologists for communist militarism. For example, Tankies will say that the Tiananmen Square massacre was either justified or didn’t happen.

Just being a fan of communism doesn’t make someone a tankie.

Edit: see below for an excellent example

  • I’m a fan of Lucero. The lead singer definitely has a Southern accent, but I haven’t noticed any questionable lyrics or glorification of ignorant redneck bullshit. No “codes” or dogwhistles. Maybe you should check them out.

  • Oh, trust me, employers are tripping over themselves to automate everything. As robots become cheaper and more capable, you’ll see more and more of them.

  • Note to all future employees: if you’re considering a job that contains “hardcore” anywhere in the job description, RUN.

This advice may not apply if you’re looking for a job in the porn industry.

  • Lego manufactures their bricks to very specific tolerances, and with a certain type of plastic. Most 3D printers couldn’t replicate it well enough.

  • I would have thought they blew their budget on the first attempt. Even then, I wouldn’t have expected the satellite to be great. I’d be surprised if the third was decent.

  • What a pedantic asshole. “Veteran” is just a thing people say when they’re experienced in a given area.

I don’t think I’d be able to tolerate this guy for more than a few minutes.

  • That rust has me concerned. No, I do NOT have questions!

  • Those ninja kitties are much, much cuter than they have any right to be.

  • I wonder if they should only allow generalized, industry-wide ads that don’t focus on a specific drug, or even company.

You know, like we see ads for broad categories of food, like cheese, beef, and milk, for some reason.
